No Good Deed Goes Unpunished - long

Sooooo, last week was my first back at work. My current schedule is Tues, Thurs, Sat. During my first day back my supervisor & I reviewed the status of my cases. While cleaning my desk I found a notice to appear in court on a case she hadn't mentioned. When I asked her about it she said <quote> f***, f***, f***, I don't remember <end quote>. When I asked if it was adjourned, she said, I just told you I don't remember. Lo and behold it was adjourned . . . to today. Mind you, at the time she adjourned it, she KNEW I would only be in on Tues & Thurs but never bothered to inform the court of this little fact.

Fast foward to today. (I'm skipping the song and dance I went through to get child care for today). DH gives me grief over the fact that I'm even doing this. Says I shouldn't be doing my boss any favors etc. Not what I need at 7 AM. My breast pump stopped working properly yesterday so I couldn't pump this morning. As a result I only have one bottle - which shouldn't be a big deal b/c this should only take until 11 AM, maybe 11:30.
DD didn't eat as much as she usually does, maybe b/c I was a bit stressed that she slept later than I would have liked to get out the door on time to get to court.

So I get to court and the opposition's position is not one I agree with in any way shape or form. We have an informal conference with the judge and she doesn't agree with the opposition either but finds a compromise which sends my client upstairs for an "in court" evaluation. Two hours later we're still waiting for this evaluation to start when I head to the ladies room to figure out why I'm so uncomfortable.

Turns out I am leaking so bad from one side, the bottom of the breast pad is soaked through and my shirt and bra are drenched. I flip it upside down and switch it to the other side and move the almost completely dry one to the leaking side. Of course all this touching now causes let down in the non-leaking side.

I convince the court evaluator to do the evaluation at noon even though there is a judge waiting for him. When it's done he tells me to let the judge know he can report before lunch if they just wait a few minutes.

I go to the courtroom and tell the court officer this. A few seconds later the secretary asks if the evaluation on my client is done (and I know she was asking about my client b/c she used the actual name). To which I reply yes it's done, the evaluator is in Part 1. Well, was that a mistake. The court officer flips his lid and throws me out of the courtroom!!! Five minutes later opposing counsel comes out with his coat on and says the Part is closing for lunch!!! The court evaluator appears and tries to talk to the officer to get the case on before lunch but he's being a big d*ck (for whatever reason). He doesn't even tell me the part is closing for lunch OR what time to be back.

I explain to opposing counsel & the court evaluator (after they tell me what time) that there is no way on this earth I can make it back by then. I mean really, I had to get from Central Islip to Smithtown, feed DD, and then get back to CI in an hour and 15 minutes. They are OK with that but I can't even go in the courtroom to tell the court b/c of that azzhole

The ONLY good thing to come of this fiasco is that I do not have to go to work tomorrow at all, when originally I had to work 1/2 day to go with today.

Today was the first and last time I arrange child care to do something on a day other than my regularly scheduled work days.
