nipple shields. . .help me
should I use or not?
She latches GREAT but I have an inverted nipple on the right and while she can get it pretty good. . .holy hell, it hurts so bad and I'm trying my hardest to get as much of the whole area in but her little mouth can only hold so much. . .so I bought the shield b/c I'm already bleeding & cracking a little. .& honestly the pain Ouch. . .
How do I use this thing?

are you talking about the one that goes on your nipple and the baby sucks on it, kind of like a a bottle nipple almost? If so I used this for my inverted nipple. Let me tell you, best decision EVER. My lactation consultant reccommended it. It ended all pain pretty much and I eventually weaned us both off of it. I do plan on using it again if need be. Any questions let me know!!

If it hurts when you nurse your baby, the problem may be her latch. Nipple cream is going to be your friend for awhile (I liked the Lasinoh kind). Also try rubbing a little BM into your skin.
I used the Medela nipple shields for about 6 weeks b/c DD had trouble latching. Be careful using them. It makes it harder for the baby to take milk from you, and if used in the long term, it can affect your supply.

i know this seems silly but how do I use it? How do I know I have the right size, I just guessed when I ordered. Do I have to really put them in hot water with every use (as stated on directions) cause that's kind of annoying lol

Yes! I bought a bunch so I could alternate, but cleaning it is important.
The LC in the hospital gave me what they thought was the right size. You want your nipple to take up most, but not all, of the shield.

These worked well for me too. I used it on one side for a few weeks and then my nipple wasnt inverted anymore so I stopped but it was really helpful. Hard to explain how to use it- the lactation consultant at the hospital kind of suctioned it to me . You also just kind of hold it there while holding your breast for the baby.

i alternated it on and off - it helped me with the pain so I would use it until the pain got a little better, then latch him on regularly because I was afraid he wouldn't latch without it. I had the two smallest sizes... I forget - xsmall and small? because I had flat nipples... they both worked fine for me. one of them had a cutout which I liked b/c then his nose pressed against my skin, not plastic.

Def use! And get lanolin for sore nips, lots of air drying, dh will be seeing a lot of boobs Congrats again she's soooooooooo cute!
