For those who weaned off nipple shields..

did you find that your baby nursed for a shorter amount of time without the shields, or was it the same?

do they get the milk faster without them?

She definitely nursed for a much shorter time, even the 1st time off the shields.

Sounds like you're having success with it, so congrats!!!! DD and I were and she screamed her fool head off until I feel like she just gave up and gave in...

I am trying to go cold turkey and it seems to be working, but she is only really nursing for like 5 mins-- then she is DONE. I try burping, then offering her the boob with the nipple shield, but she won't have it.

She never nursed for a long time before-- so I assume she is getting enough. 7 to 9 mins was her magic #.

It would be weird that after 5 mins she'd be like, "hey-- what is this thing, I don't want it anymore!", right? I assume she wouldn't take it in the beginning if she was opposed to it.

I went cold turkey and he kept nursing the same 5 to 15 min on each side depending on his mood. lol

If she's satisfied- then you're doing great! The shield can inhibit letdown, so she's likely stimulating your letdown reflex more often-which in turn would make the milk flow faster.

Good for you getting her off the shield- it took me a loooooong time to wean DD off it.
