Re: Nintendo DS

They don't officially have one yet. But DD (4) and DS (3) have games for my DS that they like to play. They have been playing it for over a year now.

They both have a leapster.

I'll probably get them a game each for christmas for the DS then maybe next year get them a DS.

Re: Nintendo DS

DD who is 7 just got one as a hand-me-down from her 12 yo cousin. I did not want to buy her one, I told her she could save her money and she was working toward it.

It counts as "screen-time" and I really prefer that she not take it out with us everywhere we go, we'll see if that works LOL. I see kids waiting in various places with their games (like the siblings who have to wait while their brother or sister is in a class) and it drives me crazy but I guess it's the norm and then those that don't have one feel left out.

Re: Nintendo DS

dd got hers when she was 4. She really wanted it but truthfully almost never plays it. She will play it when I remind her she has it, or when other kids around her are playing theirs, but at home almost never picks it up.

Re: Nintendo DS

I'm pretty sure we got Robbie's first one at 7.. but it broke.

We got them both DSi's last year (Robbie was 8 and Noah was 6). We bought protective Nerf Cases. Robbies is still working fine. Noah actually got so frustrated with a game that he pushed really hard on the screen and disrupted the graphics. TRU was awesome though. We didn't have the receipt - but they sent us a gift card for 190 dollars to replace it. We opted not to replace it because we felt he was too immature to handle it. Instead he got to pick out some other things.

Re: Nintendo DS

My DS got one last year for his 7th bday. DD got one last Christmas and she was 5 1/2. No, the youngest is not getting one at 4. LOL He likes to play them but his Leapster is more appropriate right now.

May I recommend the Nerf Armor covers if you get one? Esp if you have wood & tile floors. They seem to be the only spongy type cover out there that cushions the DS if it falls. Most of the other covers seem to be hard plastic and are just for show or to prevent scratches. DD dropped the DS a few months ago and broke the hinge. It's all downhill from there, trust me. A broken hinge is deadly bc the wires run through the middle of the hinge.

haha I was thinking this sounds very torturous and then I reread that you have a DS that they use sometimes. Chat Icon As always, it helps to read the entire post.

Re: Nintendo DS

DS got one for his birthday and he is 5. I was honestly worried and felt he was too young (My mom bought it for him), but it's been a great way to teach him more about responsibility. He's careful with it and puts it away nicely in the case when he's done using it.

DD is getting a Leapster Explorer for Christmas. I just love all the games and features it has. Good for her age and more educational than just video games, IMO.

Oldest and middle got one at age 6, the youngest got his at age 4 for christmas. When 2 have one, the third without one is torture for the parents - lol.

I agree that the Leapster is overall more educational than a DS, but I was actually really surprised by the selection of video games they have for the DS that are kid-friendly and educational! Dora, Diego and Backyardigans, to name a few.

I haven't gotten Bella one yet. She hasn't asked and I am in no rush.

Maybe if she asks for Christmas? Just not sure at this point.

Re: Nintendo DS

DS started asking last year when some kids were bringing them to preschool to play w/ during naptime...

I tossed around the idea of getting one for his birthday and decided against it...

He is only 5, and has lots of years ahead of him for video games.
He has a leapster, and I dont think the DS is necessary...

TBH- now that he is in Kindegarten and the DS is not allowed in school, he hasnt even mentioned it! Out of sight, out of mind! :)
