Nikon or Canon
Just wondering who like which brand better and why. I currently own a DSLR Nikon D40X and I am looking to upgrade. Thanks in advance!

they are both great brands. It comes down to what feels right in your hands

I agree! I use Nikon and would never switch to Canon, only because I know the controls and the quickest way to change around my settings.
If I started off with a Canon, I probably would never switch to a Nikon.

Re: Nikon or Canon
I'm a Nikon girl but I think they're both equal if you're spending the same amount & buying the same level camera.
The most important question to ask yourself is what is it about your camera that you're looking to upgrade?
Once you've gotten a DSLR, all of the photo you've seen from professional photographers can be taken with your camera. It's only a matter of lens & skill level after that.

Re: Nikon or Canon
My DH did alot of research with both cameras and finally decided on the Cannon Rebel XSI. We love it! I really don't think you can go wrong with either of them though.

Re: Nikon or Canon
I was always a Canon girl and then I heard so many raves on LIF about the Nikon D60 that when I saw a good deal on Ritzcamera.com, I bought one. It takes great pictures and I love it, but I kinda wish I went with a Canon because my lenses from my original film SLR would fit. Should've thought about that... You girls can be very persuasive!

Re: Nikon or Canon
I actually got a great deal on an Olympus SLR ($350 including 2 lenses). I originally went in with every intention of buying an Nikon D60 but then they had an Olympus with dust reduction and 2 lenses for the same price as the D60. I held both in my hands and liked the way they both felt but the Olympus was the better deal. It takes awesome pics and is so easy to use. IMO the most important things about SLRs are ease of use, how you feel holding them, lens availability if you start getting really into photography and eventually the skill you learn taking pictures. However I don't think you can go wrong with a Nikon or Canon...they tend to be loved equally by both owners. It's like coke vs. pepsi.
This forum is a great link that has owners of every kind of SLR.
DP Forum
ETA: If you are looking for resale value you are probably better off sticking to a Canon or Nikon since those two brands seem to be the most popular people look for.

Re: Nikon or Canon
Agreed with pp's that it's a totally personal choice...
I am a Cannon girl - I have a Digital Rebel Xsi, and I LOVE it....never tried a Nikon, so I can't comment on them...
