night weaning

does anyone have experience with this? how does it work?

I am EBF and my DD is almost 7 months old. She is still waking 2-3 times a night to nurse and in between those times she also cries out. I am essentially still getting no sleep.

right now she eats and then goes to sleep around 6-7pm. She then wakes up 2-3 hours later to eat. some nights she also wants to eat around midnight. Then she likes to eat around 2/3am and then eats again around 6. so in a 12 hour span, she eats 4 or 5 times.


what can i do to make her sleep through the night? ive tried cry it out, ive tried solids, ive tried gas drops, ive tried white noise, pacifier, co-sleeping... none of it gets us any sleep!

No advice, just sympathy here!

DD is not much better and she is 10 months. She goes down around 7 and is often up between 10 and 11 to eat. She's not a big eater before bed so I don't know if that's part of the problem or if it's just habit. She usually wakes again just a few hours later and then thankfully will sleep until morning after that but not always.

She was doing better a few weeks ago and was down to once a night (even sttn once) but then went right back to her old habits. Her ped didn't offer much advice, just that his own son didn't sttn until around 18 months!

I'm torn about weaning her at a year. I don't know if it would break the habit of waking or not. I also don't know how I'd get her back to sleep without nursing which scares me.

My guess is either she isnt hungry and is usign the feedings as a way to soothe or she isn't getting enough at the eralier feedings. By this age they should be going longer stretches.

I didn't BF so things might be different but when DS was that age and would wake feedign would be the absolute last thing I would do. My DS also wasn't asleep for the night at 6. IMO that is a little early and I would try and push that later. I am a big fan of CIO. I have had a few nights where DS cried for an hour....so you can't give up.

Does she eat frequently enough during the day? Do you pump/bottle feed as well? Maybe you can try giving her a bottle of pumped milk at 11 to see if that would sustain her. Or cluster feed before bedtime.I think 6 is too early for bed. Mine eat around 7 then 10 but we try to keep them awake for most of the time between so they know the diff between night and day.
