Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
Ann was 26 days early, a little jaundice and not gaining the weight she lost at discharge from the hospital so ... she's only been out of the house for dr's appts until day 10 (I think - I can't remember) we brought her with us to the dog park. DH went in the run with Maddie and I took Ann for a walk in the snap & go.
She finally gained a little weight at her appt yesterday but I'd really like to keep her in at least another week. I mean, DH & I keep saying "you're not even supposed to be here" so she'll be staying put for now. I just don't see the need to bring her to BRU or Target or whatever when she can stay home with DH.
We have had visitors though.

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
I stayed in a solid month and allowed family and friends over...after that cabin fever set in and I went out.. I think as long as people are not breathing on the baby in public and hands are clean with family and friends all is fine...obviously when someone has a cold keep them away but I had my DD at the begining of the summer..by July I was out and about

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
Even taking DS out, I feel like he's exposed to the most germs at the doctor's office (even though there are sick and well rooms), which we HAVE to go to...

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
DD was born in the beginning of February and during Flu season. My intention was to not take her out to public places until she had her first set of vaccinations. However... starting from the day after we got home and for the next 8 days, we were taking her to the hospital every day for bilirubin checks, so she was exposed to ALOT of germs. We took her on her first outing to a store at 3 weeks - Costco, BRU... I just kept the shade of the carseat over her and threw a blanket over that.

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
DS was born at the end of April, we had him out the second day we were home--no one told us otherwise actually.
I agree with Erin to exercise common sense with it

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
My DD will be 7 weeks tomorrow- and I have only taken her to outdoor places for lunch and the park--I can not wait to 8 week hits, we r out of here-My doc recommends 8 weeks because if they get a fever before then it could be dangerous! One week to go...........

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
My DS was born in the beginning of October and My DD at the end of October. We waited until 8 weeks before we took either of them to stores or inside restaurants.
We took my DS out for walks right away. It was unusually warm for October when he was born. My DD we waited a bit longer, I think maybe 10 days or so.

Re: Newborns and taking baby out question
DD was born on Mother's Day and not released until 2 weeks later but she started going out almost immediately. The Dr. said to use common sense; not to let strangers and especially little kids touch her but to get her acclimated to sounds, people etc. We had her out to eat with us at 15 days, BRU shortly after and now at 8 wks she comes to softball games with us and really enjoys the fresh air. Of course the mall is VERY different then an open ball field but my thought like the PP said is the most germs are probably at her Ped. office( which we cannot avoid!). Do what is comfortable for you as a mother; this is your baby and only you can know what is best for him/her!...
