Newborn sleeping thru the night

If your little one slept through the night early did they always sleep that good?

dS has been sleeping like 6 hours at night and last night it was more than 7. He's 1 month old.

I m shocked at this bc DD never slept that good and still doesn't and she's 3. Just curious if it will stay like this or not.

When my DD was a newborn she slept great. I wish I could say it stayed that way. Once she hit 5 months she was up multiple times during the night til she was about 1. But again, all kids are different.

My DD has always slept well. She started sleeping from 12 -7am around 5 weeks, and aside from 4 or so days around teething her molars, has pretty much always STTN. She's now 17 months.

But as PP said, every child is different so you never know.

DS started STTN at 6w, but it's changed a million times since, so don't be surprised if it does Chat Icon

DS SSTN for the first time when he was 4 weeks and he's been a great sleeper since then.

DD slept thru the night starting around 1month. 6 hours from 10p-4a. Between 1-4 months there were a few instances where she got up before 4a to eat, but mostly, she was ok. Around 4.5 months until 6 months sleeping became a challenging bc she was sleeping in a PNP. Once we put her into her crib in her own room around 6 months she started sleeping better. 9p-5 or 6am. Now at 9 months she is happiest when she goes to bed between 6:30-7:30p. She will wake up around 6-6:30 bright eyed and bushy tailed.
If I tried to put her down later she is just cranky the next day.

Yes, both kids (14 months and 5 yo) are really good sleepers.

They both started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old. (10-12 hrs stretches) Once they did that, they never changed.

Ds #3 has always been the best sleeper. He was sleeping 10-12 hrs by the time he was 8 weeks old. He is 2.5 now and continues to be my best sleeper. I can count on one hand the number of times he has woken during the night. I have 3 others who are not like this - it is great! I hope it continues for you!

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

DS#1 was like that from night one and is still a good sleeper.

DS#2 - slept long stretches at 4 weeks and became a disaster after 6 months.

DS#3 - started out good and still at 8 months gets up most nights

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

My first was a horrible sleeper as a newborn. Then became a great sleeper at 5 months and is still good at 5 years old.

My second slept like a dream as a newborn. I got 5 hours straight as soon as he came home from hospital, even 8hrs at times. Eventually as he got older he would have many nights he would wake up once a night. Still now at 2, he will have two nights he will sleep through then a few nights he wakes up screaming once a night. Ugh!!! Wish he would just sleep

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

DS#1 started sleeping probably 7-8 hour stretches by 8-9 weeks. He has mostly continued to be good. We had a time maybe around 5-6 months that it got bad - only b/c he'd drop his pacifier and couldn't get it back so we’d have to go in 3-4 times a night. But that didn’t last that long (or maybe I just remember it that way.) He has had times (like now at almost 5) where he just doesn’t want to go to bed and will do anything to stall it, but once he’s asleep, he’s usually OUT!

DS#2 on the other hand….10 + months - not so much!

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

As others said it will change a million times

DS1 - started STTN around 8 - 9 weeks. Around 9 months he was getting his front top teeth and was a nightmare so after a couple of weeks of no sleep we did the CIO method. Worked and then when he went into his bed at 2.5 became a nightmare again. Wound up coming into my room almost every night from about 3 till almost 5. Got worse when he first got potty trained. Now he is just 5 and is back to STTN and I have to wake him.
BTW - when he came in my room I had blankets for him to sleep on the floor next to me bc he tosses around too much.

DS2 - didn't STTN till about 7 months and now my really good sleeper at almost 3.

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

Julian slept through the night since literally the day he was born.

I worried myself sick wondering if it would change.

It never did! He went from eight hours a night in the very beginning, to ten hours, and then twelve hours -- and now, since 3 months old, twelve hours a night from 7pm-7am without a peep.

He also naps 2-3 times a day!

My mom said I was like this when I was a baby - exactly like him!

Newborn sleeping thru the night

My boys started STTN at 3 weeks and 5 weeks, respectively. They are now 4 and 2.5 and have always been great sleepers. My daughter is just a month old and started sleeping 6-7 hour stretches at 2 weeks and has been consistent and increasing those stretches since then.

pretty much this. DS gave us long stretches early on and he's for the most part a good sleeper but he definitely goes through phases of waking up more often, etc. he's 10 months now and sleeps 10-11 hours a night on average.

naps are another story. lol.

Re: Newborn sleeping thru the night

in the first 4 weeks, our DS would sleep straight through to the next feeding between 8-15 weeks, things really started to change and we were up constantly throughout the night. around 4 months old, he started sleeping more soundly again and by 5 months, he was STTN and has been since (knock on wood!!)... hopefully your LO will continue to sleep well Chat Icon

Nope. Mine was doing 7 hour stretches at 10 weeks and at 10 months I am lucky for a 2 hour stretch. It all stopped at 4 months.
