Newborn-ish (8 weeks +) feeding amounts and frequency...
Jeremy started off as a slow and low amount feeder. Now at 8 weeks, he takes about 4 ounces of formula every 2-3 hours. I am starting to notice that he wants more - fine he gets more as one fussy eater per household is enough for any parent. Im hoping this will stretch the time between feedings.
Can you share with me how much and how often you feed your DCs at a similar age? TIA.
(I did do a search first but it was futile)
ETA to specify he is formula fed.

DD only drank around 3-4 ounces at that age probably every 3 hours or so. She only just bumped herself up to 5 ounces at 4 months old, and that's every 3-6 hours (depending on when she feels like it).

My DD drank 3-3.5 oz of formula every 2-3 hrs. at around 8 weeks. My DD is now 4 months and drinks anywhere from 4 to 6.5 ozs every 3 hrs. It varies every day with her.

Re: Newborn-ish (8 weeks +) feeding amounts and frequency...
I asked because Jeremy was still hungry after a full 4 ounces but it took more than a half hour for him to get it down (including burp time which can tack on another 10 minutes to the feeding). I made 2 more ounces and he guzzled it down. I can't say this would happen for every feeding, but Im not used to this since Abby was such a hard feed. 4 ounce bottles took a very long time for her. Only now will she drink 8 ounces of anything!

Re: Newborn-ish (8 weeks +) feeding amounts and frequency...
My ds is 9 weeks and i was feeding him 4oz every 2 1/2 - 3 hours so i started giving him 5oz last week every 4 hours sometimes longer. i do notice that he wont stop drinking the bottle if its in his mouth. sometimes he will spit up some formula so maybe he doesnt always need 5oz i may try to give a couple 4oz bottles in the afternoon and give a 5oz right before bed.

DS is 10 weeks and gets 4.5oz every 3-4hrs.
We will bump him up to 5oz soon... he's polishing off his 4.5oz bottles really fast and the 3-4hrs is really closer to 3 hours.

Have you tried changing the nipples to medium flow?

Re: Newborn-ish (8 weeks +) feeding amounts and frequency...
Ben is also formula fed and i am having the same issues. last doctor's appointment, the doctor said 4oz every 4 hours. that did NOT work! ben would scream and cry after 2 1/2- 3 hours. my mother started accusing me of starving my child. and i was just trying to follow doctor's orders.
for the past few days we've been doing 5oz every 3 1/2- 4 hours. he is much happier with that and seems satisfied. if he eats his evening bottle late enough (8ish) he'll skip his midnight feeding and sleep until 4 am, so i guess it's working.
he's been spitting up a lot more for the past few weeks though. not sure if that's amount related but if anyone can give me some advice on that i'd appreciate it.

Re: Newborn-ish (8 weeks +) feeding amounts and frequency...
My rule of thumb was always if they suck the bottle dry to increase it 2 ounces (because I originally used powder formula and I hated doing half a scoop). If I don't see a little bit left in the bottle I'm afraid they're not satisfied.
At 8 weeks I was still BFing DS, but that was around when I started switching him to formula. He went from 4oz to 6oz really quickly. My goal was to get him on a 3 hour feeding schedule and 4oz per feeding wasn't cutting it.
After he started day care (12 weeks) they were giving him 6oz bottles but said they needed to feed him more often (every 1.5-2 hours) so I told them to increase his bottles to 8oz.. he was going through a growth spurt at the time. He's still taking 8oz bottles now (19 weeks) but he goes 3.5-4 hours in between and he does leave about half an ounce to an ounce behind.

DS is 6 weeks old and is taking around 4 oz every 3 1/2 - 4 hrs. Sometimes he only will take 3oz though and we try to get him to get more in, but he fusses so we stop. It's very rare he eats the same amount at each feeding but we are getting there.
