Newborn constipation.. Need help
DS will be month old on wed. I know i have posted about this before. Well i called ped to call me back and hopefully they will soon. DS was having horrible gas and not going to bathroom so they changed his formula from similac advance to similac sensitive. Now he has been on it for almost a week and a half and he is going to the bathroom but (TMI warning) his stool is soooo hard not soft and mushy and i have to help him release. He is pushing so hard his face looks like a tomatoe. And now the past 2 days even to pass gas he is pushing so hard. Now i think it is starting to affect how much he eats unless this is a whole different issue. He was up to 5 oz and now since last nites feeding he will only eat maybe 2 oz if your lucky. I feel so bad for him and it is starting to make me cry because i feel like i cant keep him comfortable no matter what i do. My husband is losing his patients which is making me angry with DH. Thanks girls for any advice you can give. I was gonna ask the doc if i can give him juice or water since i hear this works but i think he might be too young still.

Re: Newborn constipation.. Need help
When did they switch his formula?
Also, is it regular Similac Sensitive, or is it Sensitive RS?

I assume you've tried the thermometer. You can also try pedialax(my Dr said use after 48 hrs of no or little poop. I have had issues with pooping over here too-tho their poop is soft they still get upset when they try to go

Re: Newborn constipation.. Need help
my first dd had issues with constipation when she was a newborn. Not sure if it was your thread that I posted on about her needing her anal opening stretched open more. The peds had us doing the thermometer trick, but it was having to be constantly done, so the peds put his pinkie in the anal opening to stretch it. It was a horrible experience to have watch your baby go through but from that moment on she didnt have constipation issues anymore.
