New vacuum help!

I need a new vacuum. Mine sucks, and not in the good way. I have a Ranch, so I won't need to haul it up and down flights of stairs, but I have 1 DD, another on the way, and a cat. What should I get?

I have an oreck. I went through so many vacuums and finally invested in a really good one. Worth every penny!!

I have an Oreck I love, but it doesn't work with the carpets I have (VERY thick plush, almost shag like...)
Needed something quick & have been beyond happy with Eureka - Airspeed Gold HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum Link

Re: New vacuum help!

I got my Oreck for Christmas 2010 and have had nothing but problems with it. I rarely vacuum and have hard wood floors. I have two area rugs that are not thick. We had it "tuned up" when it was a year old. Shortly after that, we noticed it smelled like something was burning. So I brought it to Oreck in Westbury and was told that I need a new belt. Paid for new belts & they put them on for me, get home and still smells like burning. So I called customer service and was given the run around. They told me to bring it in to have it checked. I said NO, I already brought it in and I'm not wasting more gas to be told it's another belt problem. There's no reason the belt should go bad after one use. So after a really heated convo, they put me in touch with a supervisor who had new belts and a new brush shipped to me. We replaced it and guess what? STILL smelled like burning. Finally, I decided to bring it to Commack (i live in Bellmore) bc they were the closest store open on that day. The guy replaced my brush with a "better brush" and charged me for it and told me that this would do the trick. Guess what? STILL smells like burning.

I don't vacuum very often now and when I do I try to get it done really fast. It's a shame bc I really like the vacuum and the handheld that came with it but it's a piece of junk.

We have two cats and own the Electrolux oxygen canister. CMOS with lots of attachments to get in all the crannies that the cat hair collects in. Love the canister for use with the attachments and getting the tight spots and what not and it's great on both the carpet and hardwood ( bet vacuum I've had for the hardwood, doesn't throw the dirt back at you) but I hate carrying the thing up the stairs since it's two pieces because of the canister and part that gets the floors kwim? I make dh do it then he ends up just vacuuming, so works out for me! Also don't like the bags and changing them so dh does that too. Works better than any bag less I've had though.

Me, too. Even "converted" my mom to get one. We both love it -- works on HW floors, tile, and carpets.

Re: New vacuum help!

I bought an Oreck and loved it until we ripped up the carpets.

I don't think it does a good job on the wood floors at all and it gets clogged from one of my area rugs all the time.

I know I need to get it tuned up but its only a year old and I spent $600 on this thing.

I should have gotten a miele or an electrolux
