New to this: Block Party?
I just moved to LI from the city and have never been to a block party.
Besides giving money to the organizer am I supposed to do anything else? Does each home provide drinks, food, etc? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never had one but have been to my uncles every year. Him and his neighbors collect x amount of money to fund: bounce houses, dj, water slide and games. Each house has their own food and drinks tables and chairs :) HTH
Eta: the money also covers the cost of the permit.

Re: New to this: Block Party?
We run our block party. Every block may run theirs differently. Our permit is free, but we collect funds for vendors (bounce house, DJ, tattoos, glowsticks, games, etc.) and basically it's a BYO food & beverages. We provide a large grill for all the families to use.
People just bring tables, chairs and coolers and set up near other families/friends. Our neighborhood is rather large, so we just close off a section of the street and folks gather there.
Was there a flyer provided?

Re: New to this: Block Party?
When I lived in PJS, we had one every year. Each family paid a fee which covered the permit, stuff for the kids (boucy house, etc), DJ.
Each family set up in front of their own house, invited who they wanted and provided their own food and drinks. It was kind of like a bunch of little parties up and down the block. The block was closed so the kids were able to be in the street with their friends, ride their bikes, etc.
I would check with the person running it to see how its run on the block.

I was thinking of organizing one for my block... is it a lot of work? Before I bring it up to anyone, I'd like to get an idea if its more grief then its worth?
