opinions on what time to start a new years eve party

I threw one last year and dont remember what time i started.

Is 7pm too early? I think so if people are going to stay until the ball drops...thats 5hrs. I was thinking about starting at 8pm. Kids are invited but obviosly people can leave before the ball drops too.

Its cocktails & appetizers only. What time you think?

TIA!

I would start it at 8pm. I'm sure some people won't leave as soon as the ball drops.

eta: I just saw that you're only serving cocktails and apps. if that's the case, maybe you can even start it at 9

7pm is a little early.... that's a long haul to midnight. I usually start at 8pm and serve a ton of food Chat Icon

if you're only doing cocktails and appetizer, I would say 9pm. any sooner and you are going to risk some really drunk people.

I think 8 or 9 pm is good. This way there won't be too much time before the ball drops
