New to the board... need some 1st b day advice

Hi everyone!

I am new to the boards... looking forward to getting to know everyone! :) My son, jack, is going to be one on 8/27-can't believe how fast it goes!

Need some advice regarding a first birthday situation..

Make a long story short, we are having DS's first birthday later this month. A friend offered to make the cake, at first we said no, but then she really wanted to do it, so she insisted. No one else in either family at the time offered-we had originally planned to purchase and keep it simple.

since then, my mom has called me, and since she has made all the other cakes for her grandkids, she is insisting she does SOMETHING for my son related to the cake-she is also making the cupcakes. I told her about friend, but she still would like to do it-would mean a lot to her.

So, I asked friend if she could just make a smaller cake, that it would still mean a lot for her to make it, and then my mom would get something also.. to keep both ppl happy b/c I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.. I am so torn. To boot, I am having major family drama and I just didn't want to start anything else.

Sorry so long, but, did i do something wrong? I think my friend is upset-I tried calling to explain, but she has not returned the call (i had originally Emailed and never heard back).

UGh.. any advice?

Are you planning on doing a cake smash? Maybe friend can make the cake that DS eats while taking pics and then MIL can make one for his party! HTH BTW WELCOME to you and your little man.

We were planning on doing something like that, I just didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. We are excpting at least 30 people and about 10 kids.. So hard with these things..

Is his party on his actual birthday ???

If not, maybe your mom can make him his actual birthday cake and your friend can make the "party" cake

Thanks for the advice, the problem is we are out of state and my mom is coming on his birthday, but the party is the day after. My parents don't live around us..She won't be albe to "make" it for the birthday... but, that is an idea.. my mom is stuck on doing something for his party. I feel so torn and bad right now..
