New Mommy w/ feeding ques..

Hi all- I'm happy to be joining all of you.
I had my beautiful Gabriella on 2/27 & trying to adjust to mommyhood!
She's a really good eater but she wakes up a lot more (every 2 hrs) to eat at nighttime. During the day she's sleeping more & waking up every 3-4 hrs to eat.
I'm bottle & breast feeding but I'd say mostly the bottle.

How do I get her to sleep more at night and eat less at night? And sleep less during the day & eat more?

Thanks ladies & I'm sure ill have plenty more ques for you!

Congrats on your dd

Wonder if she just needs to be soothed. Did you try a pacifier? May help bc she just wants to suck on something and may not need the food.

It could just be part of being a newborn. It could also partly be day-night confusion which will straighten out over the next month or so.

Either way, it's way too early to get on a feeding schedule. You just kind of have to go with the flow at this point.

I agree. My baby just started sleeping through the night now and she's 8 weeks. She's starting to know the difference between day and night.

Agreed.

I would make sure to keep things bright and noisy during the day. You can try waking her every 2-3 hours during the day to feed.

At night keep things quiet and dark. Don't talk to her or engage her. Just quick diaper change if needed, feed, and back to sleep. White noise is good at night too. Eventually she'll realize it's more fun to be awake during the day.

Congrats!!!

I'd say you can try waking her during the day and keeping her belly full. Try feeding every 3 during the day and keep her up a bit. Do eat, play, sleep. Try to stuimulate her a bit sing to her, show her toys, play with her, changer her diaper etc.

Overall I hate waking a sleeping baby, even during the day...that is your time to nap or shower or do whatever you want! BUT it does help to keep them up more and add in an extra feeding if you can. It will take a few days but keep at it!

Congrats and exactly this! Day night confusion lasted about 2 weeks for us (after bringing them home from NICU) but trying to keep things bright/active during the day, and quiet and dark at night really helped.

So happy for you!

Congrats!

In the beginning they're stomachs are so small and breat milk digests so quickly that there's not much you can do to get her to sleep longer. But it will get better little by little. By around 6 weeks my dd started sleeping 5 or 6 hrs before waking up hungry during the night. Around two months I started supplementing w a bottle of formula before bedtime and she started sleeping 7-8 hr stretches some nights. Not sure if the formula kept her full longer or if she just was gettig better at sleeping for longer periods. I hated being so exhausted all the time in the beginning. I would try to nap as much as possible when dd was asleep, but an hour or two here and there just never let me feel fully rested. I was EBF in the beginning though so I always had to get up to feed her. If you're using bottles too try to split it up w your DH sometimes even if it's just on his nights off so you can get a break.
