New mom suffering with some anxiety...
My DD is almost 4 wks old and I cant help but have such anxiety. I really dont know why and it only seems to be at night. I just have an overwhelming feeling of worry.....did anyone go through anything like this and if so what did you do about.

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I had it also, it was rough the first few months. Try to relax, stay away from caffine if you can, and just give it time. It is all normal and it will pass. If you are really worried than ask your OB if maybe they can give you something.

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
i went through it. I had terrible anxiety every time she cried. I think its normal and a lot of it is hormonal. It passes, talk to everyone about it, and it will pass. For me, it did at 2 months.

I went through it a lot also - for me it was also at night. I promise it will pass...in the meantime you might want to talk to someone about it - if it is really bad.

It lessened a LOT for me as I got used to him. Try to give yourself some space to grow as a mom. HANG IN THERE!

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I still get it and Julia is 2 1/2, and it hits me more at night, so strange.....I have a lot of worries with the next baby coming to. Everyone says its normal and you will worry about your kids like this the rest of your life.
ETA: you probably have the baby blues, I had it and it lasted almost a month, then once I got use to being a mom, I felt a lot better, but I still worry!

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I feel this way too. I always worry that something is going to happen to DD or I am doing something wrong. I even poke her when she is sleeping to make sure she is breathing! From what I understand it is normal and "we" will grow out of it!

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
Yup. Anxiety, fear, hopelessness and depression. I definitely did. I would say it took a good 3 mos for it to go away. But it does.
For me I wouldn't have made it without the support and guidance from my husband, family and wonderful friends

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I had also, and just like all the other moms it did pass. Its a Huge Adjustment in your life. Once you become more familiar and in tune with your DC, it will start to ease up. Right now everything is new to you and your baby, so give both of yous time to adjust to one another. Also your dc was used to being in a warm dark place for along time and now everything is such a shock to them.

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I am going through the same thing. It started when DS was 3 weeks old. He is now 5 weeks, and I feel much better than I did. I think I am getting more confident in my ability to take care of him, as time goes on.
I also felt the anxiety at night, and first thing whenever I woke up, even if it was napping during the day. it was a sense of dread and panic. I spoke to my DH and he helped me through it, so did the girls on this board- they were a huge support to me!

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...

now my 2nd child is 5 months...and i still feel very down between 9-11pm (now ) because it takes her two to three hours to settle down for the night

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I am normally an anxious person. After the baby I definitely went through a phase where I was much more anxious at night. I was afraid it would not pass but it did. I still feel like I am not 100 percent myself yet.

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
I had it too. I think most people have it. When night time hit, i would become obessed with looking at the monitor. Once my DD started sleeping through the night consecutively (at around 9 weeks) it stopped. I sleep straight through the night now.

Re: New mom suffering with some anxiety...
OMG- night time was THE WORST. I remember feeling FINE during the day, but as the sun went down, the panic would set in- wondering what was to come that night.
Everything seems worse/scarier at night- you feel so isolated. You are still going through the learning period with DC where everything is still so new and overwhelming.
I would call my mom all the time. I also made sure to have really good movies/shows to pop in to the DVD player for the nights that DD was being a beast. LIF was really good for that too- someone is ALWAYS on.
What you are feeling is TOTALLY normal.... and it WILL get better!!!
