New job while ttc'ing?
So, we just started TTC. But I really want to change jobs. I have one job offer but it is a bit of a commute - but it's a good position.
Who knows how long it could take to actually get pregnant. I know that legally I don't have to disclose anything but yet I couldn't in good conscience take a job know I might be taking maternity leave in 9 months (God willing!).
What are your thoughts?

Re: New job while ttc'ing?
Just to let you know, if you went out on maternity leave before being at your company for at least 1 year, you're not protected by FMLA. Unless your company has a separate maternity policy from FMLA, you're not entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave and your job isn't protected. Personally, I'd wait several months before TTC to make sure I'd be eligible for FMLA (for FMLA purposes, the company also needs to have at least 50 employees).

Re: New job while ttc'ing?
I'm actually in the same boat. I'm starting a new teaching position next year...really stinks because we had hoped to start TTC the beginning of '07. We're going to wait to "officially" start trying until around September...but as you said, legally, you don't have to tell them you're going to be pregnant. As a matter of fact, if you're already pregnant when you take the job, you STILL don't have to tell them!

Re: New job while ttc'ing?
I am actually sort of in the same boat. I've been looking for a job for almost a year now and had really hoped to have one by now b/c we wanted to originally start TTCing in March. We waited b/c I started to freak out again but now I am totally ready. I think about starting a job and getting PG right away (hopefully) and start to think that's not fair to them, FMLA, etc. - but this is where I'm at now in my thinking - too many what ifs - you can plan until your hearts content and some things are just out of your control, especially with this. Someone on here once said, what if you wait to start and then you don't realize it takes almost a year to get PG (hopefully, not but that was her point) - then you'll be mad you waited so long. So long story short - I say take the job if you want it and TTC anyway - somehow it all ends up working out!
