new house - stinky bedroom!
So we just got our new house carpeted and wood floors redone.
when we got the house we noticed that the room that is now my stepsons had some cat pee stains. We ripped up that carpeting and padding and although you could tell that it got down to the subfloor, we didnt smell anything.
carpeting was put in, no issue.
now, a week later his room smells. not HORRIBLE, but you can tell if you just walk by his door. i really think its the cat pee. what can we do?? is there anything short of ripping out the brand new carpet? our only saving grace is that my stepson is only with us every other weekend so the room isnt in use much. but still its freaking me out!

Re: new house - stinky bedroom!
we had a same problem with cat pee in our home when we bought. We ripped out the carpet and washed down the subflooring and walls. But we didn't put new carpet down, we put in laminate flooring. I have allergies, so we had to get rid of the smell I couldn't stand it. If it was me I would be pulling up the carpet and getting it reinstalled. GL!

Blech. You definitely might have to reclean the floors, but what if you start by scrubbing the walls and baseboards???? It's possible the smell is still lingering there, if the cat sprayed the walls at some point. Use an enzyme-based cleaner though, that's the only thing that will help (Nature's Miracle is great and available at most pet stores)!

get some nature's miracle and use it to clean everything including the carpet if you can locate a spot where the scent is particularly strong. the ammonia is really hard to get rid of but the NM does help.

Re: new house - stinky bedroom!
Are there wood floors under the carpeting?
When my friend moved into her place she had the carpets removed and re-finished the wood floors. A few of the wood pieces were stained from cat pee which she had to have removed and new pieces put in. Her contractor told her he had to remove them because the spots that had the stain would come out darker than the rest of the floor and that there could be a "odor" later on...
I'm not sure what you can do, but you may have to have the floors ripped up again and redo the wood..
good luck
