New here! Have a question!
Hi everyone! I just joined LIF - I've been reading the TTC boards and have already learned so much and have found them so helpful so thank you to everyone for that!
I have a question already... DH and I have been married for 2 years and decided in the last year that we wanted to TTC this fall. I was a teacher for the past 7 years but got excessed after this past school year. I was fortunate enough to find another teaching job in a different district and just began 2 weeks ago.... therefore I am brand new and untenured. IF we were extremely lucky enough to time it so that I would be due next summer and (hopefully) not have to take a maternity leave would this look bad in any way? Meaning being pregnant during the first year? The only other alternative (in my mind) is to wait until next October which seems like too long to wait for me. Thanks for your help!

Hi! I am not a teacher so maybe I will have a different point of view but I wouldn't wait to ttc. If you can time it so that you would have ur baby during the summer that would be great. I have a friend who did exactly that!

ITA, assuming that DH's salary alone would be enough to get by should you be let go again.

Thanks for your help. DH and I keep going back and forth about it. We could survive on his salary but I really like the district I am in and do not want to jeopardize this job. Plus, both of us working of course makes things easier. I think we will try to time it for the summer and if it doesn't happen, figure out what to do from there. I am just nervous about even being pregnant during the first year and that it won't look good.

I have come to the point in my life where I say screw the school. They hired you, you got pregnant, oh well. When employers fire people they could care less about that person whom they are screwing over. Don't put TTC on hold! It could take a year anyhow.

I feel like it depends on the district. Some are fine with it, while others are not. Talk to your coworkers to get a feel for the admin and just try to do an awesome job so they want you back next year even if you take maternity leave. At this point in my life I would not let my job dictate TTC.

The thing is I have no idea how this district would feel about it- and I don't feel comfortable enough yet to bring it up to my co-workers. I also have absolutely no idea how my principal would take it. I'm sure there are principals who would be completely fine and understanding and some who might not be thrilled. This is why I am so torn. I am definitely going to try to go above and beyond at work, like you said, so that it can avoid any impact it would have on my job status. Again, the timing may not even work, but I just have to make a decision if we are even going to try for it.
