New here :)

Hi Everyone - I have gotten BFP's 5 days in a row, so I think I am pregnant (I am so happy, but I don't think I can believe it for sure until a doctor says it's true)

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi!

I know I will have so many questions.

Congratulations to everyone here! Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG! Chat Icon

My next question was going to be, how does the dr. determine that I am pregnant! I thought she would do a blood test and was expecting an ultrasound too. LOL!

I have a lot of reading to do I think. Chat Icon

oh believe me i know it gets confusing Chat Icon

i know that some people do get bloodwork done, but most dr's will just do a pee test at first. then you will get a prescription for your "big" bloodwork (like 7-10 vials worth) if they don't do it at the office - in addition to the beta/progesterone test (which basically measures the viability of the pregnancy) you will get tested for lots of other stuff.

my dr didn't want to schedule a sono until 8 weeks b/c a lot of times you don't see anything until then, including the heartbeat, but since i had some weird pains she did one at 5 weeks 5 days and i got to see the little bean Chat Icon i didn't see the HB until my sono at 8 weeks.

have you made an appointment with your dr yet?

I made an appointment for Friday. The receptionist said that I don't really need to come in until 8 weeks for the full work up. Is that what you are talking about with the viability?

I don't know if I can wait that long to know for sure. She said even if I come in now, they will still want to do the full work up at 8 weeks.

I've never been to this doctor before because we just moved to the area.

the "full work up" at 8 weeks would be the blood work and sono. it sounds like this appointment for friday is exactly like the first one i had - it's like a yearly exam with a pap, plus the pee test. you dr will probably give you your first EDD (estimated due date, based on your last menstrual period) and a list of do's and don'ts.

Funny thing is HPT's in most cases are MORE sensitive than Dr tests(most Dr's tests measue at 50 or 100 miu of HCG while home tests are usually 25 or 50.) Congratulations!
