New here - DHA question

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this board and probably won't post too much, but wondered what you make of this -

My OBGYN gave me a prescription for prenatals to fill when DH and I decided to start trying. I started taking them (prescription prenatals) and OTC prenatals from Jan-Oct of this year. I wanted to take them for a while before we started trying. When the prescription ran out, I asked for a new one since we have now just started trying. My dr's office called in a new scrip for vitamins with DHA. Apparently the ones I was taking for 10 months didn't have DHA. I have a call into the nurse to ask her thoughts about this, but do DH and I need to wait for a while before trying to get the DHA into my system? I've been on the DHA vitamins for about a month now. Regular prenatals for the past 10. I'm so annoyed the original vitamins didn't have DHA if that is what I'm supposed to take! Any insights? TIA!!

No, there are so many women who get preggo and weren't taking any vitamins. The DHA is just the omega-3's. It has nothing to do with "supposed" to take, it's just suggested. I'd just jump right in, because it could take you so much longer to get preggo than you think (or it could happen right away). The DHA really has no bearing on anything except it's just another thing that helps to make YOU healthier.

TY!! I spoke to the nurse and she said she doesn't know if the vitamin I was taking before - PreNaplus - has DHA or not. Maybe the plus is the DHA. She didn't know.

I agree it can be a long journey so I don't want to postpone it!!

Just think of how many women get "whoopsie" pregnant and were NOT taking anything, and their babies are perfect... You're FINE to jump right in. Like I said, DHA is just the Omega-3 - it's good for reducing inflammation and such... Def not a necessity, but good to take.

My Dr said I didnt need to take pre-natals while TTC-- according to her, Folic Acid is most important while TTC and if a regular multi-vitamin has that, that is sufficient.

My understanding is you want frolic acid in your system as early as possible so doctors recommend 3 months before ttc. Dha you are ok to wait until bfp before starting
