new diet drug

Did anyone hear about the new diet drug that is soon going to be sold over the counter? I think its called Xenical. They had a survey and shockingly 69% of the population surveyed said they would take it. Would you take it? I dont know that I would because those pills usually have those side effects that make you hyper. Apparently more people would take it then I thought.

Re: new diet drug

I remember when I was in HS I took dexatrim or something like that.. made my heart race SO fast i thought I was going to have a heart attack..

I also remember using Stacker, it also made me sick.. and then I tried TrimSpa... that did nothing at all Chat Icon but I still lost no weight!

I truly feel like all of these pills f*cked with my metabolism and harmed me more than helped..

That said , no way in hell I'd ever use a diet drug again.. gotta do it the old fashioned way, eat healthy, portion control, exercise!!

I've heard of it and like all other diet pills they most likely won't work. They'll screw up your metabolism and even if you lose you'll probably gain it all back....I would never take them.

Although back when ephedra 1st hit the market I took them until I heard of the dangers.

I also wanted to add that I "thought" this pill was for obesity??? If they sell it as another regular diet pill, how well will that go over. I would like to lose 10 pounds but I dont think I would do it this way. Too nervous of the side effects.

Re: new diet drug

I have struggled with weight loss all of my life, but still wouldn't take it. Diet and exercise are the only things that work healthfully IMO.

I'm so done with diet pills. Have been for a very long time now. So no, I would not take them.

This is not a new drug - it has been out for a number of years only it is by script only. They are simply making it cheaper (since most insurance carriers don't cover it) and more widely available. It is not at all like other diet pills in that they can affect your heart - this one apparentely from what I have read and heard is not absorbed into your body so it is "safer" than the others.

IMO it is NOT for everyone. It apparentely has some NASTY side affects - it is a fat blocker and works by blocking all fat from being absorbed into your body. To use it properly you should not eat any fat - if you do (******TMI WARNING***************)
you could end up with - yuck - diarrhea, and incontinence (bascially) - since it flushes out the fat from your body - Chat Icon

It was approved back in 1999 according to this NYTimes article - but it was prescription only before.

Re: new diet drug

I've never taken diet pills and don't plan on taking this one. I know the FDA has done a lot of testing, but who knows whether it's completely safe. I'm definitely more wary of diet pills after working on these types of cases in my office.

Since the survey had 69% people wanting to take this drug...do you think they falsified this survey to make you think its in demand? I cant understand why the survey is so high when so many people are saying they would never take it. And YUCK to the side effects!

I think there are people out there that would take anything put in front of them. 69% does seem quite high I wonder why they don't take it already since it is readily available you just need a prescription.

Re: new diet drug

Xenical is not a diet pill per say its not in the same category as ephedra, phen phen, dexatrim, meridia, ect, it is more of a fat blocker you need to be on a low low fat diet while taking it as if you eat to much fat you will be in the bathroom all day, its not a magic pill and you will not have a drastic weight loss on it.

If I were to guess, whypeople werent already taking this, I would think it was bc I "thought" it said you have to be obese. Since it was prescription only, I would gather that drs werewnt willing to give this drug freely. I think people that want to lose 10 pounds are going to attempt to take this product.

I understand what you are saying but I dont get it in general. Is this supposed to flush out new and existing fat cells?
