IMO if you are even questioning it then it's not the time. When I was unsure about it I knew it wasn't the time.

I think it's important to be financially stable before bringing a child into the world.

I have the same concern, and am also in my late 30's.

I'm almost certain that if we were to have another child, we would need to find alternative child care arrangements and not the ILs this time around.

Financially, it would be a burden if we did no longer have them to depend on.

I also find that the people who are pro having another child, are the same ones who will throw you under the bus if you pop up to complain about your finances after the child is born.

I am younger than you but debating for the same reasons. We really feel the strain to the marriage, the financial stress and the worries associated with giving birth a second time/when older... I think we won't be having a second. I can't say never yet but those outweigh my emotional want/need to just have another.

I think the fact that you are so unsure is your answer. If it will create that many issues is it really worth it ?

It sounds like you want a 2nd child but came up with a list of reasons why you shouldn't. I think you really need to discuss it with your DH and see what he wants and how he feels about working extra and you staying home. I don't think money should be a deciding factor in having another child unless you are basically starving or about to be homeless, if it just means sacrifices, I personally feel its worth it to have another child and give your DC a sibling. If you're staying home, does your DS need pre-school? If there are ways you could cut back and make it work, I'd go for it! Financial situations can always change...people may think they are financially ok, and then lose a job or get hurt, etc. There are no gaurantees. If you're financial situation improves in 5 years, will you look back and regret not having a 2nd child??
