never been skiing
I want to try skiing...I also think snow tubing looks fun. My husband really wants to go skiing and he has not been since he was a kid. So we'd both need a place good for newbies, some place nearby. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: never been skiing
We are big skiers and my parents have a timeshare on Jiminy Peak in Massachusetts that they bought intending to teach my kids to ski there. I think that its a great place to learn to ski and its not as big and intimidating as Killington. They have a lot of non-skiing things to do as well.

We've been to both Shawnee and Hunter. Shawnee was smaller but more disorganized. Hunter had good programs but it was kind of intimidating because there were so many more adept skiers there.
If you do Hunter I highly recommend you get the try-it pack. It's 3 days of rental, lesson and lift for $100ish.

Re: never been skiing
my first and only time skiing we went to camelback. i enjoyed it. i have also went there for tubing. i enjoyed another mountain in pa off of 380 i think it was shawnee mountain that was quiet and my family of 12 at the time had the tubing to ourselves.

I grew up surrounded by ski slopes (oddly enough, I don't like to ski) and Jiminy Peak is good. If you want a very small place, try Bosquet right outside of Lenox. They have a few good trails (the easy one is good for beginners and warming up, even I can manage it) and they apparently have snowtubing now.

Re: never been skiing
I went for my first time skiing at Killington. DH loves to ski and it meant a lot to him that I learn so it's something we can do together. I took lessons and it was awesome. My instructor was so great and patient with me, made me feel so comfortable. And I didn't feel like the slopes were intimidating at all.
