Nervous - UPDATE :)
So we're picking up the pup on Monday morning, first thing. I"m a nervous wreck.
I'm scared Cosmo will freak out - scared that this dog is 4 months old and has very little training and may be past the point.......
In my heart I know I have to take him and try. The thought of this sweet thing going to a shelter breaks my heart. But I have my reservations and I'm so happy my DH is home for the winter to help train him should things go well.
We're going to introduce them outside and take them for a walk. I am going to take Cosmo and Neil will take the new pup b/c Mo is used to me walking him. We'll spend a lot of time outside and letting them "play" in the yard when we get home as well.
We have the crate, I have to get food and dishes tomorrow and I'll grab a leash just in case.
I wasn't this nervous bringing my son home.....maybe b/c Ava wasn't 85 pounds and furry
Wish us luck!!!
UPDATE: Ok - he's got a LOT of energy LOL. More than Cosmo EVER had. He's insanely adorable and apparently has established his love for me b/c he follows me and sits next to me.
Cosmo is less than thrilled but he's been SUCH a good boy. He's gotten about 100 treats and for the first time in the 5 hours we've had the little guy he's finally napping.
Ava loves the pup - Jack is going to be a problem and what *may* be the wrench in the plan to keep him. Jack is PETRIFIED of him, cries every time Buster is near him. I think and hope with a little training it'll all get better.
This puppy stuff is a LOT harder than I remember or was Comso that easy

It's never ever too late!! Even the Michael Vick dogs, trained to kill, were rehabbed and given a new life. A four month old is absolutely not past the point, the only variables are how you train and how long it takes.
Ours was 9 months old when we got him and knew no commands, wasn't even housetrained. We learned how to train him and he was up to 30 commands, three months later.
Dogs can pick up on how you're feeling. Be positive about the change and excited for them, and it will help ease their fears on a new situation.
Good luck and give them a chance, they are much more resilient than we are!

Re: Nervous
You will do fine...just have patience! My second dog was a rescued stray and was at least 1yr old when we got her...it took some patience & time to get her out of her old behaviors she had to survive on the streets and to train her, but now she is the most loving & obedient dog who makes us laugh everyday! It was tough in the beginning but so worth it...good luck & congrats on the new addition!

Re: Nervous - UPDATE :)
Thank you for updating! I hope Jack learns that he's not to be feared and might even be fun to have around.
So funny, the things you anticipate aren't always what turns out to be the main problem!
