Re: Neighbor Issue
yea totally research the plants we have tons of hostas and everyone is like why don't you like them? Well when planted only a foot or less a part, put on every square inch of anything that could use a border, left for 20 years to keep spreading they are ANNOYING! I am killing them off, digging out roots, spraying poison down just to make a dent into it.
I will spend all of September trying to get rid of them all just so i can make normal beds next year.

and yes they are going to assume you called and you will have a PO'ed neighbor. so hopefully you are not the only one who is affected by the dec,
the neighbor should have thought about his decision to build so close and how it would affect his neighbor before doing it. So yeah he's going to be PO'd but I think people doing whatever they want is ridiculous. The backlash is the backlash but to sit there with them in your face then eventually silently hiding behind huge shrubs that she would have to maintain and incur the cost of is not fair for the OP, KWIM?
ETA: It would be one thing if it was non-invasive. I'm not a total jerk and we all are trying to squeak as much shangri la out of our properties as we can. But this seems excessive based on the description.
but then wouldn't it be better for her to directly speak with the neighbor instead of calling when the neighbor would know it was her?

Re: Neighbor Issue
u are right on the 5 feet.
We have the same issue with our neighbor. But he doesnt bother us. We are all very friendly
what I would say is this...I would ask you neighbor not to sit on the fence god forbid he falls on your property he could sue you. So I just would tell him you dont feel comfortable with them leaning over the fence.
ETA we are in massapequa Parents were in the park

Re: Neighbor Issue
Whoa, wait a minute.
*HE* is breaking the rules and getting up into your space, so *YOU* have to spend money to prevent it? *YOU* have to change *YOUR* property due to his illegal activity?
Um, no. He should have gotten a permit before he built - then he would have known the rules! Boo hoo if he has to rip out his deck - he should have done it right the first time. Put in the request. He's enroaching on your property and your right to enjoy yourself - esp. inside your house!

Re: Neighbor Issue
wow I am amazed at how many of you are saying such awful things. this is your neighbor not someone who just comes and goes. you will have to live with the consequences of your actions for as long as you live there. My gf had a fued with her neighbor and for the 10 yrs she lived there it was a living nightmare for them. just put up some bushes leylands or arborvities. the leyland will grow out wide it will grow over his deck too and they are beautiful bushes and fast growing. live and let live. so you make some adjustments you can live with. neighbors are always going to be bothersome somehow someday. and Im sure its already in the works- you gave the address I am sure they are investigating it, the county is hard up for money and looking to fine fine fine. and believe me I am sure they will put two and two together that it was your household who called. seriously its not worth it. my neighbor just did a huge dormer that now they can see right into my yard and bedroom windows, what did I do bought blackout curtains and put up leylands. problem solved and we are still good neighbors. good luck, dont be too hasty, you dont want to regret anything in the end
