Needs some major support
I just came home from the Dr. and he told me I am in menopause so my eggs are all gone. I am in my late 30's and did not see this coming at all. I desperately wanted to have a child with my husband. I feel so alone right now I just want to curl up in a ball and cry.

Re: Needs some major support
I'm sorry for your rotten day. Most of us have been there. Who told you this and what did he give you as proof? Are you going to get a 2nd opinion on that?
And not that you are ready to hear this yet, but donor eggs can be done at any point. Its hard to get your head around in the beginning but if you really want a family and its something you might consider, it can be really wonderful.

Re: Needs some major support
MY gyn showed me my blood test results. My hormones show late stage menopause. He ran a second test because of my age and that test showed the same results.

I would without a doubt get a second opinion. Try to do it at a facility deals with and isn't quick to turn someone away with AMA, DOR.

Re: Needs some major support
Get a second opinion. I have been there and even though I haven't had success yet, I don't think I'm totally out.
Also, don't beat yourself up. this is not your fault. Everyone's body is different.
And as Beth-Ann said, donor eggs is always a possibility but don't go there yet.
Get that second opinion.

Re: Needs some major support
i'm sorry you had to hear that, but i would definitely without a doubt go get a second opinion from someone other than your gyno. You need to see an RE or fertility specialist
Remember, there are always options for you no matter your diagnosis.
good luck!

Re: Needs some major support
Would you feel comfortable sharing your b/w results with us? Sometimes RE's have thresholds and they wont treat anyone that they don't think they will have easy success with.
I've also read that if you have some kind of infection or something like that, or celiac disease (for example) that it could mess with your numbers. Things that could be easily treatable. So don't give up until you tried to look at everything.

Re: Needs some major support
First I would like to thank you ladies for your support and encouragement!
My FSH was 57 and LH was also in the 50's. I def want to see a specialist even thoug the GYN said no way will I get pregnant with those levels. I haven't had AF in over a year and it has been irregular for several years. Also 10 years ago I had a my right ovary and tube removed because of a cyst that wrapped itself around them. I am still not ready to admit the factory is closed forever

Re: Needs some major support
with numbers like that you ABSOLUTELY need to see a specialist. i (along with so many on this board) recommend dr. braverman in woodbury. but you also may want to look for a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) that specifically specializes in high FSH. your number is extremely elevated and only certain practices will give you a chance. but there are some that will, you just need to find them!!! good luck!!

Re: Needs some major support
Yes, I would go to an RE, get more testing done. Hopefully you have good insurance and it wont cost you much (but co-pays). You just never know what they could find. I'm in this 5yrs and onto DE now and I'm still finding things. Did your GYN do an u/s to see how your remaining ovary is looking?
I would recommend Dr. Braverman (in Woodbury) if you work/live on the Island. You need someone who looks outside the box and he certainly does. He'll tell it like it is. But, at least he will look for something.
Good luck and keep us posted. Its not over, till its over!!!!

What insurance do you have? My insurance only covered IUI's and not IVF or meds so I know exactly how you feel.

Re: Needs some major support
They have to cover diagnostic testing. Maybe not anything more advanced then that. Even if they pay for the consult, go ahead and have a consult. At least you will have another opinion. Maybe if DH has different coverage at his company, perhaps his is better and you can change when the plan year is up. NY is mandatory for testing I believe.
AND NO YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!! If you say that then you are saying that we're all failures here and we're not.
And like I say if/when you are ready for alternative ways of making your family, there are lots of options out there. Some more expensive than others.
And I do hate to say this but over the past few years I've met many women, younger than you that were in advanced menopause. If this is truly the case you will pull yourself together and find the strength and do what you need to do. Its not over. Lots of options.
And if you have to take a year off and work on saving some money, thank goodness you are still young. I'm 42 and time is not on my side.
