Need to order a bridesmaid dress
So I just got an email from my friend asking all bridesmaids to get measured and order their dresses asap. Ummm, yeah. There is no way I can be measured right now! The dress is from David's Bridal and I've never even ordered a dress from there so I don't even know if they run big or small. They are also known to discontinue dresses often and I don't want to wait too long and mess things up for the bride.
What do I do??? I guess I can order a bigger size and have it taken in as the wedding approaches, but I don't even know what size I would normally be at David's!

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
I would suggest going to David's and getting measured. Tell them your pregnant and let them advise you what to do. I'm sure they deal with this all the time. I was 6 months preggo at my friends wedding and ordered a maternity dress. I wish I had ordered the regular dress in a bigger size, because I wasn't that big and I looked like a house in the maternity dress and had to pay for some major alterations to "thin" the dress out.

When is the wedding?
Go to Davids to get measured and talk to the people there, Im sure they deal with this all the time and will let you know what you should do.
Def. ordered big, its alot easier & cheaper to take the dress in then to figure out how to make it fit if god forbid its too small

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
The wedding isn't until April!
I have no idea why she is pushing for it so early since it only takes David's dresses 6 weeks or so to come in. One of the girls already ordered it yesterday and the sales lady told her that most dresses get discontinued in December/January. So, if she really wants this dress, everyone needs to order soon. Not sure if that was just her way of getting them to commit, but I don't want to wait and end up with no dress.

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
At david's bridal they have all the sizes there so that you can try on each size...that may give you a better idea of where to start.
good luck! my sister was pregnant when she ordered her dress for our wedding and I think being that we ordered from davids bridal it helped her. our wedding was 3 months after the baby was born and the dress had to be taken in alot but it all worked out...she basically had to order a big dress to make sure her boobs would fit because she was breast feeding
hope that helps

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
What dress size would you normally wear?
Since the wedding is a few months after the baby comes maybe you can just order 2 sizes bigger than you would usually wear and then have it taken in as needed?
BM dresses usually run bigger than normal dress sizes so you might be ok with ordering a few sizes up.

I'm in the same position. My SIL's wedding is April 30 and she wants dresses ordered by end of Sept. I plan on asking the girls in the store for advise re: measurements. But I also may just order based on hip and chest measurement and when I loose all this weight just take it in!

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
I guess I just have to go in there and see what they recommend. I'm not even sure what size I would normally wear from there, so maybe they can help me figure that out. I am still going to get much bigger, so there's no way to know what size I will be PP. I should order a size smaller than usual so I can get me arse motivated!! lol
Thanks for all the responses ladies!

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
To be safe I'd always go bigger. I don't blame the bride for wanting to order ealy. lol I was a big planner for the wedding. I had to order a dress for my sisters wedding even before I was pregnant but knew I wanted to be!
I do go talk to them...it's always better to take in then to have to take out!

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
I had 2 BM's preggo at my wedding and both ordered 2 sizes larger then normal (personally, I think David's fits close to size). Both went to a taylor, but the were fine in the end. I wonder if they would let you exchange for a different size once you got closer if it were still in stock and didn't fit right?

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
Go to Davids bridal...I am sure they have had pregnant bridesmaids before. They will know what to do. The worst that can happen is that they order a bigger size and it has to be taken in!

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
I would do it just to appease her. Brides are crazy, as we all know. Just order 2 sizes larger than your normal size.
P.S. My girls didn't order until November for my March wedding. That wasn't even through Davids. The dresses got there in February. It wasn't a big deal.

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
Do you have the measurements from your own wedding dress Maria? Maybe you can give them those and like ask to order a size bigger to be on the safe side?

Hmmm that could definitely work!! I am a tad bigger than I was when I got married, but those measurements would prob be more accurate than the ones they would take now!! lol

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
When is the wedding? David's dresses usually come in very quickly--like 6 weeks—so I imagine you can wait. I've gotten a few BMs dresses there for friends weddings over the years. But I'm also sure they deal with this situation all the time, so I'd call and ask what they suggest.
For my SIL's wedding, I wasn't pregnant when she wanted to order, but I was hoping I would be by the time the wedding came. Everyone went in Jan (this wasn't David's), but the store told me and SIL that I could wait until March and she wasn't going to place the entire order (for all the girls) until then because it was plenty of time for the dresses to come in (wedding was in July). Of course, they placed the order in March and I got pregnant a month later, but fortunately, I ordered one size bigger, so it was fine at the wedding.

Re: Need to order a bridesmaid dress
I was a BM in SIL's wedding. I ordered a BM dress from J. Crew when I was 8 months pregnant. I had to wear it when I was 5.5 months PP. I ordered 2 dresses: 1 and 2 sizes up from my pre-pregnancy size. I could actually zip both dresses up over my belly, but needed the one 2 sizes larger b/c of my chest/ribcage area. I also planned to BF so I knew the larger size would be better for me. The dress was a little loose in the waist when I wore it, but otherwise it fit well. I had lost all of my pregnancy weight by then, but my body was definitely diferent.
I'd go up at least 1 dress size from your pre-pregnancy size. If you end up ordering it too big, it will be easier for them to take it in than try to alter a dress that's too small.

I am in a wedding 3 months post partum. I am going to use my regular pre-preggo size, and order 2 sizes up from that.
