NEED TEACHERS OPINION
My DD is in 5th grade. We stayed after school today and she was with friend hanging on the playground and some of the 6th graders were giving hem a hard time. My DD is Chinese and one of the 6th grade boys called her a Chinese Idiot. By the time they came and told us the kid had left and they do not know his name. They are going to point him out to me next week so I can find out his name and who his parents are. What is my best option, to talk to the parents or to the school? My sister thinks I should go directly to the school as you don't know how or what the parents reaction would be, which is true, but I'm not sure if the school would do anything. It was on school property, but it was after school. What should I do?

Regardless of it being after school, it still happened on school property. I would speak with the principal.

I agree. Let them handle it because you don't want to get involved with that kid's parents.

I think the school should know first and foremost that he's making racist comments and that it's happening at their school. While you heard it after school, it is probably happening during school and recess too. Poor thing, your daughter must have been so upset

Definitely contact the school. Let them handle it. When parents contact each other it is not a good situation.

thanks for the opinions. I wrote an e-mail to the principal and cc'd the superintendent yesterday. I'll let you know if I hear back and what happens.
