If you are coming from 71st and Continental, which it sounds like you are, take the E train. You won't have to transfer at all. If you tell me what streets it's on, I can direct you when you get out of the train station, if you want.
HTH
ETS: If Carmine's is where I think it is, then you should be able to take the E.

Re: need some direction help
I would take the R to 42nd street (and Broadway) and all you'll have to do is walk up to blocks to 44th Street.

Re: need some direction help
I just looked it up. It says 200 W. 44th st, in which case, take the E train to 42nd street and walk the two blocks.

But the R is local and it will take you 20 minutes longer. If you take the E, it skips a lot of stops.

He's right. You should take the R to Times Square and Transfer to the 1 Train Uptown to 86th street.

Re: need some direction help
You are going to the Carmine's on 90th/91st street. You can take the #1 train but that's local and it will take you a bit longer. On the express trains, it's only 2 stops. Take the R to 42nd Street, Times Square and transfer to the 2 or 3 trains (express) to 96th street. You just have to walk back on Broadway to 91st. Street. It's pretty safe and lively around there so you don't need to worry. And I'm so jealous you are going there....good jealousy...that's one of my favorite restaurants....Have a Great Time !!!

Agreed. Take the E to 42nd, then the 2 or 3 uptown to 86th.
