Need potty training advice
Today is the first day I'm trying to train DD. She will be 3 in April.
She has had a potty for almost a year now and would occaisonly sit on it and actually went on it once or twice.
This morning I put her in underwear and she went #2 with no problem. Now she just keeps peeing in her pants and telling me she has to go potty after the fact.
I still sit her on the potty after she has an accident, she wont go but as soon as I put new underwear on her she goes again in her pants within minutes.
I gave her chocolate after she went #2 and told her she can have more when she goes pee pee on the potty.
Is it ok to put her in time out when she has an accident? The only problem with that is she goes on her bed for time out and I really don't want to have to change the sheets all day too.
HELP!

Re: Need potty training advice
I wouldn't put her in time out. You don't want her associating potty training with time out. Plus, its day 1 (though Im sure if feels like day 100000 )
I think its great that she is telling you after she peed. Just remind her about that feeling, and how it feel yucky to be wet, etc.
Good luck

Need potty training advice
I would not put her in a time out. I would use positive reinforcement and have her keep checking if her underwear is dry and reminding her to go. She won't learn in a few hours after being in diapers for 3 years - just try to be patient!

Def no time out... I would just keep trying she just needs to learn the feeling she doesn't know it yet... give it a few more days. I did the 3 day potty training and it worked in no time! I know its a tough time and you should buy stock in bounty but you will get through it!

Re: Need potty training advice
We went through that the first 1.5 days with my son. I would not put him in timeout every time he had an accident but instead would tell him that it was NOT ok to pee pee in his underwear & that he must go to the potty beforehand. All of a sudden, it clicked. Now he is trained both day & night for pee pee for almost 2 months but poo is not happening on the potty....

Re: Need potty training advice
I just started training DD1 as well (she'll be 3 in June). Honestly, I found a lot of helpful tips in the 3 Day Potty Program (I can email you the pdf if you FM me your address). It's a lot of "telling" her to tell you when she has to go, as opposed to ASKING her if she has to go. I find if you ask them, they will always say no bc they want to continue playing etc. It also says to make the rewards "silent". Like after she goes on the potty make a HUUUUGE deal and give her a reward; but don't say "If you go on the potty I'll give you xyz." I'm completely guilty of doing that anyway though. Yes, bribery.
Anyway-I definitely wouldn't do time outs for accidents. It truly isn't her "fault", she's just learning. Plus potty training shouldn't be a stressful/fearful thing.

Re: Need potty training advice
Just keep at it! It will feel like forever, but she WILL get it! You may have to change her pants 40 times a day and clean accidents all day long, BUT, it will be 40 today, 30 tomorrow, 20 the next day, etc.
Most of the training is training the Mother too! Remind yourself to ask her EVERY 15 minutes. Set a timer.
I swear, the potty training days are the longest days of your life, but it will go quick!

Re: Need potty training advice
hang in there. it does get easier. Its a PITA the first day or two changing underpants (I just left a sweatshirt & underpants on Liam...he didn't wear pants all day). Every 20 minutes, potty. Eventually he got it. It was a month before his 3rd bday.
