Need LI location help for a friend who's visiting please
I'm not from LI but have a friend coming up for work and she needs to pick a town/hotel to stay in based on all the places she needs to see for work.
She'll be here next week for 3 days and will be going to Medford, Garden City, Bayshore, Farmingdale and Stony Brook. She also has to go to Brooklyn and Staten Island and also two towns in Rockland county. I have no idea where any of those towns are in Long Island so i don't know where she should book a hotel.
Should she stay somewhere in Nassau since she also has to go to Bk, SI and Rockland? In which case, what towns have nice, safe places to stay (she'll be alone) and are convenient to highways that will get her to all those towns on LI plus the other places she has to go?
thanks so much!!

I think Rt 110 in Farmingdale is good - plus there is a lot of restaurants, shopping (Target, Walmart, Mall) - there is a Hilton and and Courtyard Marriott.

Ditto to this.. it's all new, clean and accessible to everything. They also provide shuttle service too

I was thinking this too. It's a pretty central location and about midpoint between Brooklyn and Stonybrook.

I would say that Mineola/ Garden city would be a convenient location and it is pretty nice there.

I agree. Good location, easy to get to the LIE. The hotel is fairly new and really nice.

Um, I hate to burst your bubble but your post intrigued me so I google mapped Stony Brook to Farmingdale and that's approximately 28.4 -25.2 miles apart (depending on the route you take) and Brooklyn to Farmingdale is 31.2 - 31.0 miles apart (depending on the route you take) so really what she's suggesting isn't THAT far off.
Are YOU from Long Island?
Perhaps you're confusing Famingville for Farmingdale?

Jen is right, I live just west of SB and its still only like 1/2 an hour from Farmingdale to SB dpeending on traffic. Its just 110 to Nicolls on the LIE, its not that bad.

Dont worry about my bubble... mileage wise is very close. you are correct... have you ever driven to Brooklyn? I live on the north shore of queens and it can take me an hour to get to Brooklyn and up to 2 hours to get to Staten Island... as where i can make FARMINGDALE in about 25....

I was thinking the exact same thing- so close to the LIE and plenty to do.

Oh I'm sorry, I hope I didn't confuse you, I'm far from concerned about your bubble
And yes, I've driven from Suffolk to Brooklyn before and it can take a very long time to get there, but we have no idea when this chick will be traveling, so, with that in mind the only thing you can base travel time off of would be mileage. At least that's my opinion.

Re: Need LI location help for a friend who's visiting please
All of those points are very spread out and she is going to be driving A LOT!!! I'd probably choose something closer to north-western Nassau since the drive through the city areas, although closer distance-wise, will be much more congested and take her longer to travel through.

and then another 30 minutes to get to Stony Brook and Medford...
seems like a good middle point...you've just proved that.

Re: Need LI location help for a friend who's visiting please
I would recommend staying some place in Western Nassau (Mineola, Garden City). I live in Eastern Queens (Bayside) and would say it takes about the same amount of time to drive to Stonybrook as it does to drive to Staten Island. It will also give your friend easier access to the bridges to head up to Rockland Cty.
If I were her, I would arrange the appointments by area and just change hotels. Somewhere on 110 for the long Island appointments, downtown Brooklyn for the Brooklyn/Staten Island appointment and some where in Rockland cty for those appointments. That's a whole lot of driving to do in a short time in this area. The inconvenience of packing up each day would be trumped by saving all that driving time.
