Need Ideas ----What charitable thing do you do for the holidays?

We dont just want to donate money, we want to buy presents for a family, or soemthing like that. Maybe provide dinner, etc

through our church - we can buy presents that have been requested for needy children in the diocese. you pick a slip off the bulletin board with the item that you are going to buy and then you bring it back on the designated day.

they also do the same for turkey day - you can donate a turkey and the makings of a full t-day dinner. it goes to a needy family.

you can also volunteer for the assembly and delivery of these items

i am sure that non-religious organizations do the same thing.

you could volunteer at a soup kitchen or a shelter

I used to go with DH on a Holiday Toy Run on his mororcycle. Hundreds of bikes start out with a toy strapped to their bikes in the Hicksville Sears parking lot and go to St. Chris's. They have Santa follow in a convertible. It is great. Just seeing the kids faces makes it wonderful.

We fulfilled 2 letters from NY Cares. They have ones for little kids, teens or families.

We donated toys to a local charity that brings them to sick kids in the hospital.

We are going to to Toys for Tots.

we adopt a family through a church near my office, the whole staff chips in to buy the gifts. we have adopted a family ourselves too, but this year our church has "angels" on a tree with children & their gift requests so we'll do that.
My side of the family is also taking the money we use for our secret santa & donating it to St Jude's.
I'm donating food & two frozen turkeys.
