Re: need hotel advice for NYC
There is the Gramercy Park Hotel and Also the W in that immediate part of town. Both could be pricey, but especially the Gramercy Park.
There is also Hotel Giraffe which is a little less generally and is excellent!
If you are willing to go a little more downtown, there are some really great hotels that you can get for a great price.
I have my own travel agency actually so if you need help booking anything or just need any advice, I am happy to help.

Re: need hotel advice for NYC
I'm not sure of specific hotels, but wanted to mention that DH and I just pricelined a hotel in NYC when we were there last weekend..
We picked the area we wanted to stay and then chose the "star level" which we chose at 3.5 and up. We ended up paying $120 for a night at the helmsley hotel, normally about $220-300 a night.
The hotel was nice, not incredible, but certainly not terrible. It was great for what we needed, and the price for manhattan was terrific. Just a suggestion!! My sister in law did the same thing, she ended up a few blocks down from us at the International Barclay. She said it was nice.
