Need help pleading not guilty with a ticket...
I got a ticket 2 weeks ago and I have court tonight. I was in a right turn only lane and went straight @ a intersection. What can I say to plead not guilty??

You realize perjury is a crime, right?
Pleading not guilty is one thing - Lying under oath about the circumstances surrounding the ticket is quite another.

True. I've never really been in the situation before. I almost was once but fortunately my case was dismissed because my cop resigned. I didn't really have a plan going in. I just got lucky.

Hopefully the cop won't show.
Apologize and say you were unfamiliar with the area and didn't realize you couldn't go straight from the lane you were in.
Dress nicely, and be very apologetic to the court. Good luck!!!!!!!

That right turn only lane is a new rule.. I got pulled over there and i told the cop i've lived here all my life and always gone straight from that lane. He told me a lot of people weren't following the new rule cause it was just that.. new...
Say that you never noticed the new law making that lane a turning lane only.

I agree, just say that you got in the wrong lane, didn't realize it and made sure that the straight lane was clear before you proceded straight.
If you don't have any other tickets, stress that. It was just an innocent mistake.

Have you asked for a supporting deposition from the cop? I'm not sure if it is too late to do that but you may want to find some info about that online.

Maybe I'm confused... or just don't read the paper. What new right turn only lane rule?
If you're in a lane that is only for turns, then yeah I think that if you don't turn and then crossing back into straight traffic at the intersection, that would be a ticket for reckless driving. Was that not a ticket before, but now it is?

The actual street where she got the ticket... not a new law on the books.. you used to be able to go straight from both lanes on that block. Now they changed it and you have to make a right if you're in the right lane.
I went straight in the right lane cause I always had, they just recently made that right lane on that block a right hand turning lane only. The cop let me go because it was a recent change. The cop that pulled the op over didn't let her go and gave her a ticket..
I was suggesting she explain that she has always gone straight and didn't notice the recent change to a right hand turn only lane.

Oh - I got it now. I didn't see her reference what street or intersection this occured at so I didn't think that you could be speaking in detail about a particular intersection.

Re: Need help pleading not guilty with a ticket...
Are u going to court in Nassau or Suffolk? Nassau if you have a clean record they pretty much will plead you down and you will still have to pay...if you try and get "cute" they usually get mad and take away any offer they were giving. If it is suffolk you have wait for the cop to appear and the court gives him/her 3 tries before they dismiss.

DH told me to do this last time I got a ticket. It didn't work. I got a letter back saying that they weren't required to do that for one reason or another. This was for a speeding ticket though.

Well, you didn't hurt your case by trying. There are a lot of technicalities to it but it worked for me. I have only been given tickets twice in my life and used this both times, so I have a totally clean license and I never even got to the point of having to argue my cases.
