Need help finding a friend a condo in/near Stonybrook
One of my old friends from HS just got a medical residency at Stonybrook Medical Center. He goes to med school in Albany and needs some help finding places to rent in the area. He just sent me this message: "looking for a condo like rental 2+ bedroom with laundry in the building if possible. Would live in port jeff, stony brook, st james, smithtown"
I don't know the area well at all, so figured I would ask here. Any ideas of where I can direct him to look? TIA!

I think azoodie posted about something recently. I don't remember if it was here or FB. Maybe try to FM her.

I live in the area, but he'll need to figure out how much he wants to spend. If he wants a luxury apartment-style 2 bedroom, it could run him $2500+ all utilities.
Avalon in Smithtown is great but pricey.
There are a lot of condos in Coram, and some are rented out. It's further East, but probably less expensive.

I was going to say the same thing
an apartment in a house will run him about half that
it's not really an area set up with rentals like that

Re: Need help finding a friend a condo in/near Stonybrook
If he can come down to SB, he should walk around campus, there are tons of ads up on the walls advertising rentals in the area.
I work for one of the professional schools and our students live in rentals in PJ village (converted houses into apts; apts built above CVS, etc), some live in the Heatherwood Apt complexes in the area (studio, 1, & 2-br apts), others commute in from Queens.
He should come down and check these various areas out to see what he is willing to do; drive to/from, what he wants to be near, etc.
ETA: Students also rent from Stony Hollow (apts/condos) at the corner of 347 and Old Town Rd.

I work at SB as well. There are rentals listed on the SB website. Sorry I can't remember the details, but tell him/her to check out the SB website...might be under off campus housing. The majority of students rent apts. in homes.

Re: Need help finding a friend a condo in/near Stonybrook
my sister rented a condo/apt in Port Jeff Village and was really happy there - it's the 202 Regency Condo's on Main St. They are really reasonable for a place in the Village - $1800-$2000 per month. If that's what he is looking for just keep in mind they are older and not going to have the modern amenities of a newer/luxury condo complex like The Ranches in Mount Sinai or Willow Ridge in Smithtown.
With a sense of his budget and what type of community he is looking for I may be able to help more.
