Finding out a friend is pregnant through FB?

One of my close friend's sisters just updated her status to "is officially going to be an aunt again".

I'm assuming that her sister (my friend - DH's close friend from HS's wife) is pregnant. She has a 2-year old and had a MC back in September. I am thrilled beyond belief for her, but a little hurt that she didn't let us know herself (spoke to a few other girls in the group and no one got a call from her or her DH)

So if she does call to share her news, do I say that I knew already, or fake surprise?

We told everyone that we wanted to in person first because we wanted to avoid a situation like this.

Her sister actually messaged me last night and told me to "act surprised" when they told us.

This same sister did the same thing with her first child also

maybe her sister spoke out of turn and slipped? i would think that if she lives close by she would want to tell you face to face.

either way, i would still act surprised. JMO.

your friend might be furious with her sister for blurting it out on facebook. I wouldn't be hurt, maybe she wasn't ready to share the news yet.

I am going to say I have specifically told people not to say things on FB and that I would make an announcement. But if someone slipped - I would be upset. So it is completely possible your friend was waiting to share the news. I am 19 weeks and still have not announced on FB. I am waiting until my level 2 next week.

the same thing happened to me. I visited family in bklyn and told them we were expecting at 12 weeks. we wanted to tell friends in person but by the time i left and got home to suffolk i had people congratulating me on fb. I was HOW DO THEY KNOW??? i looked at my sisters status and both said the same thing - they were excited to be an aunt again and i was pregnant! I wasnt mad but i can see where ur friend might not have known abt the status update. U also have to remember people are going to bombard her (like they did with me) with questions and etc so she may not get to u asap. dont be offended...

when she does tell u - u can tell her the truth that u knew bc her sister posted it on fb but ur so excited for her! I had ppl telling me that - they werent mad - just told me they saw it on an update...

My immediate thought was that because she m/c, she was waiting to tell people and her sister spilled the beans...she's probably not real happy about the whole thing.
I would just call and congratulate her....I'm sure you'll get the whole story then.

I HATE this!!! HUGE pet peeve of mine.

I have found out so many things about people I am close with (DH's family, my good friends) regarding births and pregnancies on FB and it annoys me to no end.

I understand it's easy to update everyone you have ever met that way but, for example, DH found out his cousin was pregnant (he only has 3 and they are close) on FB at the same time 500 of her other "friends" found out.

I found out someone was pg on fb. They had sent me an email also but I read my fb before my email.

I think people just get excited when they find out they are having a baby or their sister is having a baby...I'm sure they didn't mean to not call you and fill you in. I would just be honest and say that you read it on Facebook. If your friend gets mad - it'll be at her sister - not at you. I'm a fan of being honest - especially when it comes to "faking being surprised". Most people can see right through it. Good luck

I don't see the big deal, tons of my friends have used FB to announce they were expecting, getting married or landed a new job/big promotion.

Who has time these days to call every friend one by one?
