Need BF'ing Help- Nursing Strike
I am hoping someone will have some advice. DD has been refusing to nurse the past 2 days. I know she is hungry but she screams bloody murder when I try to nurse her. I was reading in a BF'ing book that it's what they call a "nursing strike" and it can be caused by many different things. I think it's because she was half asleep when I was nursing her the other day and DH asked me a question and I answered loudly which startled her and she started screaming. The book says that they can then associate that scary feeling with nursing. She will take a bottle but I dont want to keep doing that. I can get her to nurse after a struggle of trying multiple times and trying to rock to calm her. BF'ing came so easy to us until this started. My milk also comes really quickly which does upset her sometimes and the book also says that can be a cause. I don't know what to do and it's really upsetting me. She has been so unsettled since this started and I think it's because she is not eating enough. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Where you able to get past it and how? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: Need BF'ing Help- Nursing Strike
My oldest DS went through a nursing strike when he was first teething. The pressure in his head was more uncomfortable in certain positions so I had to experiment to get him to latch better. Not sure if that helps you....

Re: Need BF'ing Help- Nursing Strike
I found that DD also relents sometimes and I dont know if its because I had to give her a bottle early on or that in the start of the feeding as soon as I see her knowing its time to BF I start (TMI) leaking all over. I found that if I put the pump there in the begining to let the flow slow it works better and I put on Pandora radio on the Easy listening station to get her calm. Its worked for me. I think DD likes the ease of the bottle she doesnt have to work so hard. I am only getting milk from one breast so its a challenge not to have to bottle feed her.
I hope that can help. Good luck.
