Need Advise... Explaining to a toddler about all the changes ahead.

Mason will be 3 the end of the month. I will be leaving my job to be a SAHM. I want to concentrate on my boys.

Here's what's ahead...
- Mason's EI will end so he will no longer see his Speech and OT THerapists
- His last day of daycare that he loves will be the end of the month
- he will be starting in a new school and going on a bus for the first time ever

I know it's all for the best, but still sad. The daycare teachers love the boys. They get sad knowing they will no longer see them.

Everyone keeps asking if I told him yet.
No, I haven't. He's not 3 yet and he has some receptive delays.
How do I tell him he will no longer be going to the school he knows and will suddenly go on a bus to a new school with new kids and teachers?
There's no orientation or anything. It's going to seem like a regular class, but he'll get the extra help he needs everyday.
I'm excited and nervous all together.
Any advise?

I would totally create social stories. I'm a spec. ed teacher, and I do this with kids who are having a hard time with something or who need to transition.

Make the stories really simple and use actual pictures of him, OT, SLP, day care teachers, a school bus etc. And read them to him at least 1x a day.

I would start mentioning how exciting it would be to go to a new school. Point out all the buses you see and make a big deal. Get some books about school. Good luck

Try highlighting the positive and new things vs mentioning what he will lose. Don't mention that he will be leaving his daycare, just talk about thew new school he will be going to and the new things they will do.

Also, could you maybe drive him to school the 1st day. That way he may feel more comfortable since you are taking him, he may see it as a safe place since mommy is taking him there.
