need advice PLEASE...swaddling

So DD just wants to poke at her face with her one arm free instead of sleeping. She dosent sleep. I just stuck her arm back in and shes passed out. Shes 4.5 months...heres my 2 questions..
1. Is she too old to be swaddled?
2. Should I wait until we can CIO to do this?

Im just so sick right now my patience is out the window...and I want her to sleep so badly.

We swaddled DS until he was 6 months and then stopped cold turkey. i was so worried he would have trouble but he was fine!! We used the sleep sack. i would just keep swaddling her for now, esp if shes not rolling over yet!

DS did that. so we stopped cold turkey. he kept himself awake for a while flailing around but eventually fell asleep.

DS was only swaddled until he was 3 months, but you can swaddle for longer, as long as she doesnt tangle herself up then she is good to go....

also make sure she cant roll over

yup, been there, done that. he fell asleep eventually. we just had to keep going in, shushing him and giving him his pacifier.

Re: need advice PLEASE...swaddling

My godson was swaddled until he was about 9 months, so no, she's not too old to be swaddled. I also asked my ped about this. I would make sure the swaddle is tight enough that she cannot get her arm free. Are you putting her arms straight at her sides before swaddling? That will help to prevent her from getting the arm out. Also, are you using a Swaddle Me? You can really pull it tight so DD won't be able to move her arms around. Does she take a pacifier? I have found in the past that my DD will cry once in a while when she wakes up and the pacifier calms her right down. She only uses the Wubanub type pacifiers so it stays in her mouth. Keep trying. It will work!! Hang in there mommy!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So, my advice, i agonized over it as DD broke out constantly, she is a wild thing and was sleeping like crap..i just quit cold turkey..sucked for a few weeks but now she is doing great! It is not easy at all..trust me, my DD doesnt sleep in the crib yet and i know whats ahead of me..she sleeps in her Amby Bed like a rock..lol..it is not easy when your baby is high maintenance, lol, i swear, my husband said she already is just like me!

Re: need advice PLEASE...swaddling

We stopped swaddling at 11 weeks. He was breaking out of it to suck a hand. So we started with leaving one arm out for a week. Then stopped completely.

I do not think she is too old to be swaddled as long as she isn't rolling.

I bet once she can sleep on her belly she'll stop flopping about. I started to let DS sleep on his belly at 7 months. Magically he started to sleep through the night the same time!

My DD was swaddled until she was 7 months. We just stopped swaddling DS but he sleeps on his belly and doesn't move his hands around when he's like that.

Re: need advice PLEASE...swaddling

I think she is too young to CIO personally.

DS was 9 months old before we stopped swaddling, so 4.5 months seems fine to me!
