Need advice ASAP!!! AM UPDATE

I live in the upstairs apt of a two family house. The downstairs neighbors have three kids. We just went to bed and we can hear one of the kids crying "mommy let me out of here" over and over and over. They have been crying for over 15 mins. I am freaking out. This has never happened before and i think im going to throw up I am so upset. The kids are under 4.

I don't know what to do. I won't be able to sleep. I want to cry.

UPDATE

I called them - I have their house #. No one answered. I just left a msg expressing concern for them since we never hear the kids crying and after an hour we started to worry that something was wrong. I apologized for calling so late and said I would check on them in the morning.

I am still worried but the baby stopped crying and I don't know what else to do. I am glad I called though, even though she didnt answer.

AM UPDATE

She just called me back and said the baby was having a nightmare and they were trying to get him go back to sleep. We never heard anything again after he stopped crying the first time.

Im relieved that everything is ok.

Well, to play devil's advocate, maybe the child is in their crib or bed and doesn't want to go to bed? That doesn't necessiarly mean they are hurt, KWIM?

If you are really concerned about the way they are crying, then I'd go down and knock on the door and see if everything is okChat Icon

Re: Need advice ASAP!!!

I know. I am hoping that is the case and I dont think they are hurt but we are worried.

I am hoping they are just trying to get the kid to sleep in their bed/crib but we have not heard anything from the parents and it feels like its been a long time to refuse to respond to a 3 yo. I don;t honestly know - im not a mom and I have no idea.

This is the first time we have ever heard anything like this and to be honest it is disturbing - but I am not assuming the worst.

i am honestly afraid to. it is for a selfish reason but they are related to my landlord. they are so nice but i feel sick hearing that kid screaming and crying. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I think we are going to wait 15 more mins and then knock on the door. DH will, not me.

Re: Need advice ASAP!!!

If you weren't a little suspicious to begin with I would say they are probably just trying to get the kid to bed.

But being that you said someone called CPS on them Chat Icon ..

I would feel weird too..

I would say see how long this goes on for.. if it's more than 30-45 min.. go knock on their door

If it was me.. I would also be listening closely to any clue as to what's really going on (door knob shaking, crib rattling)

I think I would call the police. Better to risk feeling foolish then having something bad happen to this child.

over an hour, no response from anyone? too many bad people out there. I would seriously either knock on their door or call 911. but that's just me.

CALL!! If they left her home/locked her in alone, that is child neglect/abuse. Report them!

Re: Need advice ASAP!!! UPDATE

but the baby isnt crying anymore. It is weird they didnt answer but it is midnight and its possible they turn their ringer off at night. Im sorry im coming across like I don't care because I do. I've never been in this situation. You really would call the cops even after the crying stopped? (and I mean that in a completely genuine way) It sounded like the baby fell asleep. If the baby makes one more peep tonight I will be on the phone with 911 immediately.

they are not alone. both of the cars are in the driveway and we can see the tv reflection through the front window.

they have three kids, but one is 8 or 9 so if there was a serious problem I am thinking she would know to come and get us - she has come up to our apt before when they were alone down there.(edited for clarification - they were playing in the yard alone and she came and knocked on my door - she told me her father was home and I have no reason to believe he wasn't but technically the kids were alone together in the yard)

It was just concerning me that the baby was crying for an hour but now it sounds like they are all just asleep. maybe im just tired and delirious but im starting to worry that i am seriously overreacting.

I do know exactly what you mean....that is what keeps running through my head and I would be devastated if anything happened to any of them. We always wonder why neighbors didn't do anything when they heard something suspicious and here I am in the situation and I can see how people convince themselves its nothing because most times it is, but at the same time what if its not. So I will see what I can do and will keep trying to get in touch with them and make sure everything is ok. I will update in the AM. Im going to go and lie awake and listen for crying or whimpering or anything else for that matter. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
