Need Advice: Articulation Problems/Nasal Speech

My daughter will be 4-years old in April. Since the weather has turned cold, she has had a constant nasalness. Her articulation is worse than her peers. I understand about 70-80 percent of what she says. The teachers commented that they have difficulty understanding her. She is rarely sick. When she is, it is with a cold and sometimes it develops into croup. She has never had an ear infection.

The pediatrician has never expressed concern. He felt her congestion/nasalness was from the heat being turned on. We have hot water heat but I do think the house is dry. I have put a humidifier in her room and that stopped her from coughing and snoring in the middle of the night.

Any advice? I have an ENT appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I am worried they are going to say her adenoids are enlarged. I am not sure whether I should also consult with a speech therapist and/or an allergist.

We have a similar situation and went the same route- an ENT appt first to rule out any physical issues that could be causing articulation problems. (Just a heads up that the ENT exam was more invasive than I expected. They needed to put a small light on a wire up his nose while he pronounced some words. Not fun.)
Based on what they find, the ENT should be able to advise you on whether to consult with a speech therapist or allergist.
