Need Advice
I am sooo frustrated!!
I am getting married in two weeks in Puerto Rico and just found out from JETBLUE that I can't carry my wedding dress onto the plane. My options - put the dress in as suitcase and check it and PRAY it doesn't get lost (it's a direct flight which helps) OR ship the dress via mail and insure it and again, PRAY it makes it there. What would you do?! This is added stress a bride doesn't need!!

Re: Need Advice
I think I would mail it ahead of time too. BUT call the hotel you are staying at first & arrange for them to contact you when it gets there & maybe they can get it pressed for you too!
Plus ship it a little early there so IF (BIG FAT IF) something were to happen, you could rectify it.

Can you put it in a carry-on bag if you have to fold it up anyway?

Re: Need Advice
why can't you take the dress on the plane with you?? Honestly-- I would beg and holler until they say you can take it... otherwise, I would just bring it. The stewardesses will make sure you are taken care of.

I agree...not sure I would feel comfortable mailing it. I would want that dress at my side at all times.

Re: Need Advice
I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to... can't you just put it in those zippered suit hanger thingys and carry that on?
If you're going to mail it and it's going to get put in a box anyway might as well stuff it in a bag and carry it on the plane. Then get it steamed when you get to PR.

Re: Need Advice
Jetblue is giving me a hard time. I called four separate times, and each time was told the same thing. They have a strict policy about wedding attire and do not make exceptions.
They said I can't carry it on the plane in a garment bag because there's no place for me to hang it Since they don't have first class, there's no extra room. I don't know what to do!!!
I need a large cardboard box to mail it in (if I decide to do that). It's a decent size dress and I'd like to mail my veil with it also. I looked on staples website and they only sell in bundles of 25 -- I need one!!
This is added stress a bride DOES NOT need!

Re: Need Advice
I say wear it! Just kidding, just kidding. I would just mail it early, and have the hotel confirm they got it. But first, call the hotel to make sure they will accept it for you. Delivery confirmation if possible.

What if you bring it in the garment bag and then just put it in the overhead compartment on the plane? Is that something you could do or would they just not let you bring your wedding dress on the plane at all b/c it's "wedding attire"???

The wedding coordinator down there has been accepting my boxes, so I'm not worried about that. But now I need a very large box to ship it - where do I get one???

Try calling Uhaul. You can get at least one box from them and pack your dress and protect it in one of their larger boxes.
HTH!

If you have to mail it then go to UPS. They have all different size boxes and help you to pack it. I had to mail a bridesmaid dress to my sister-in-law in minnesota and they were great. It was a decent size dress and there were no problems. Good luck!

Re: Need Advice
I would just bring it on the plane & put it in the overhead bin. The flight attendants might be nice & more accomodating than the corporate people on the phone.
I brought my dress on the plane (American Airlines, I think) when we got married in the Bahamas & everyone was so nice to us.
If you ship it, you should get the name of the wedding coordinator & make plans with her in writing to sign for it & hold it for you. But I wouldn't trust that.

Re: Need Advice
what about folding it CAREFULLY and bringing it as your carryon? Does the place your getting married have a service where they could press or steam it?
