Nature's Miracle
So I have been having a few issues with my kitty peeing on our semi new rug. She seems to like the way the rug feels.
We are bringing her to the vet tomorrow to check for a UTI.
In the meantime, I bought some Nature's Miracle. Thing is it is kind of expensive here- $30 for a quart. I am not sure of the price in the US, b/c I never bought it there, but I assume it is expensive here b/c it is an import.
It says not to add water on the bottle, but I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I am looking to save some money...
TIA!

I've used it before. You just use it as is, don't add water. I guess if you dilute it, the strength decreases.

Re: Nature's Miracle
I don't know that I'd want to dilute it. Part of what I found weird about it was that it says to saturate the spot and leave it. I was sure this would cause mold - but it didn't. I'd be afraid if you added water, maybe then it would cause a mold/mildew problem.

I don't think it would work as well with water added to it..
As for your cat peein on the rug - have you tried putting a piece of carpet in the litter box? Sometimes they like the feel of the carpet better than the litter - its worth a shot!

I never thought of that! The rug is an area rug, so perhaps that would be less of a problem than a regular rug.

Good idea!!! I've got two litter boxes, but I am afraid if I put i t in the litter box it might encourage this behaviour and she would think it is ok to go on any rug. I might ask that question when I go to the vet tomorrow.

Re: Nature's Miracle
I don't have cats, so I have no litter box suggestions, but I will say this, to kill the smell of cat pee, use white vinegar-it's soooo inexpensive, it won't take the color out of the rugs, and it's non-toxic, so you don't have to worry about your cat getting near it. My yellow lab throws up with the ease of a bulimic, and I find that cleaning it up with white vinegar kills the smell, and the stain...good luck!!!

I am going to try that too. I am going to flip it over and scrub the underside, probably where the smell is stuck. For some reason (thank god) the carpet hasn't been stained and when the pee is there it dries right away and the other side is where it soaks into. Anyway I am going to try some vinegar and we have this enzyme detergent here that I will try. It is much cheaper.
Thanks!

Re: Nature's Miracle
Well I took her to the vet and he doesnt think it is a UTI, but rather a behavioural issue, or that she just likes the rug. In some ways if she were sick it would be easier b/c then I would know what it is.
The vet suggested cleaning the rug and moving one of the litter boxes. I had the two litter boxes next to each other and he thinks that she may be picky and needs privacy, so I have one upstairs and downstairs.
Anyway, I got an enzyme cleaner that was recommended to me on a cat board I am on. Looks like a Sunday project for me.
The vet also wants a urine sample. He suggested locking her in a room with a litter box with newspaper. When she pees to take the litter box and tip it to get a good sample, b/c newspaper won't absorb all that much. I feel bad locking her up . I have another cat so I think this must be the best idea. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all your advice!
ETA- I read somewhere that vinegar can have an ammonia like smell and that would attract the cats to go there again.

Re: Nature's Miracle
i've used the eliminator stuff and it did not work- my guy continues to go in the same spot on the rug. so since we're in an apratment and he's supposed to go inside, i just put one of his weewee pads in that spot and now we have no messes. it's much better than cleaning it up all the time.
now if i can only stop him from peeing on my DH's underwear when DH is in the shower??
