napping issues - 13 months

something is up with Jack. it took him 1.5 hours to fall asleep last night (never takes more than 10-15 mins max)

he slept great last night.

this morning, we put him down for his morning nap at 9:10 and he didnt fall asleep until 9:45. he woke up and DH changed him, put him back in his crib at 1030. he normally takes a 2 hour nap (yesterday his morning nap was 3 hours)...

he never went back to sleep so we took him out at 11 and fed him. he was rubbing his eyes through lunch so we put him back down at 11:45 but he didnt pass out until 12:45!!! he has been sleeping since.

i have anxiety over leaving him in the crib. seems like he has been in there all day.

should we have not put him back down? i dont know, I just feel like we are doing the wrong thing - then again, he has been sleeping for over an hour now.

maybe we need to go to 1 nap (like 1130-230) but he did nap for 3 hours yesterday am.

just very strange behavior for him and i guess i feel like im neglecting him Chat Icon

Re: napping issues - 13 months

My DS is the same age. Sometimes he takes a morning nap, other times he won't.

I remember this with my first DS. After a year, he would not nap some mornings, and would take a longer afternoon nap. I moved his afternoon nap time up (to about 12:00). I also put him to bed earlier, since he woke up earlier.

On the days he won't nap in the morning, I would take him out, and try putting him down earlier in the afternoon. Chat Icon

Re: napping issues - 13 months

My 13 month old does this when she's teething. I wondered if lying down increased the pressure on her gums. If I give her Tylenol or motrin the next nap or at night she usually will go down right away and sleep straight through again.

Re: napping issues - 13 months

My DD is doing the same thing and she is also 13 months, some mornings she goes in and sleeps for 2-3 hours and other days she only sleeps for 1-1 1/2 hours

on the days where she sleeps for 3 hours thats the only nap I give her because she normally sleeps from 11-2 and then I feel like its too late to put her in again so by 7:30 she is in bed for the night.

I did read in Dr Spock that around this age they tend to drop teir morning nap and just sleep in the afternoon ??? who knows lol but you are NOT neglecting him he is clean, fed and dry diaper and safe in his crib no worries but I know how you feel it is a little frustraing and confusing but I just basically go with her lead. Re: napping issues - 13 months

He may be getting ready to transition to 1 nap a day. Sophia started doing similar stuff at 13-14 months. Try putting him down later, he'll probably sleep longer but only 1 nap Chat Icon
