Nap question 10-12 month olds
How many naps a day does your LO take & for how long?
Right now DS takes anywhere from 2-3 but they are only 30-40 minutes in duration unless I hold him. If I hold him, he will sleep 1-1.5 hours...

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
My DD just turned 1 but her naps have been consistent for awhile now
Usually 9:30/10 she takes a 1hr nap
Around 1/2 she takes a 2hr nap (sometimes more if she's super tired)

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DS has been on a very good nap schedule since he was prob around 6 months. He takes 2 naps. 1.5 in the morning around 9 am and then 1.5 hours in the afternoon going down around 2:30. He only naps in his crib. If we are out he skips the nap. He's 15 months now but he was doing this at 10-12 months.

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DD takes 2 naps usually, sometimes she skips her 2nd nap which means she goes down earlier. But her morning nap is usually around 9-10 for about 2 hours and her second is usually anywhere from 1:30-2:30 for about 2 hours as well.

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DS started taking 2 naps at around 10 months and still does at 13.5 months. He takes a morning nap for about and hour and the afternoon nap is more like an hour and a half now. But he will sometimes nap longer. It just depends on the day. He still sleeps about 11- 12 hours at night though.
I know you have another one coming, I suggest getting him to sleep on his own in the crib a bit. Maybe some sleep training because he may not be sleeping well in the crib because he wants to be with you. Just a thought.

Colin is only 9 months (almost). His naps are about 1-1.5 hrs. He take 2, sometimes 3 (3rd is usually shorter like 45-minutes) At daycare he sleeps like 12-minutes all day long
and then takes 1.5-2 hours when he gets home

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
been taking two naps for a few months now. He's almost 14 months
around 10AM he takes an hour to two hour nap
2nd nap around 3:30 - 4ish for about 45 mins to an hour. Usually less b/c we're in the car coming home from daycare at that time

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DS is only 9 months old, but moved to a 2nap schedule around 6/7 months. He naps at 10 and at 2:30ish, both for 1.5-2 hrs.
Can I suggest doing a "nap hour"? If your DC wakes before an hour, then leave him in the crib until the hour is up. It may help extend the naps a bit. I know DS will often wake after 45 min, sit up, look around, maybe even cry, but will always lay back down and fall back asleep. You might be running in before he has a chance to do that.

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
Liam went through a really weird napping thing at that point. He wanted to be held too. I think it's all before walking!! He was only napping 1.5 hours and then not again at all.
But, fear not. Once he started walking, he went back to naps... one is usually 1-2 hours and the second is under an hour.

DD takes 2 naps... morning nap is 2 hours or more and afternoon nap is usually 1 hour or less (sometimes she even skips the afternoon nap).

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DD is 10 months
depends on the day - weekdays she takes 2 naps. One on the way to daycare, one on the way home. Each 1 hour long. She always falls asleep in the car so the long commute kills her day as far as "real" naps. She rarely naps between 8a-5p mon-fri. Daycare hates me for this
On the weekends she'll take between 2-3 naps, 1-2 hours each.
First is usually about 2 hours after she wakes, so usually around 8 or 9a
Second is usually around 1 or 2p
If we go out she'll usually take another nap in the carseat or stroller

Re: Nap question 10-12 month olds
DD is almost 1 and only taking 1 nap a day from about 10-12
She dropped the afternoon nap about 3 weeks ago. Very rarely, if we are in the house all day on a weekend or something, she will take a 45 min nap around 3.
I'm fine with the one nap in some aspects (its easier to plan my day, she falls right asleep at bedtime, her one nap long versus the two catnaps she used to take). I just wish I could get her to take her one nap from like 12-2 so she wasn't so exhausted by 6ish (her bedtime isn't till 7)

DD only started taking long naps once she dropped her afternoon nap... Prior to that they were ALWAYS 40 min, once she dropped it they switched to about 2 hours.

Glad to see there is hope then in my future! If DS would nap 1-2 hours, I would get so much more accomplished!

It may be because DS is undertired (UT). When babies are UT, they nap shorter periods. Same for when they're OT. I would look at the WT (wake times) and consider increasing/decreasing them depending on how long he's awake. At 10-12 months, WT should be 3-4 hrs. Here's some useful info:
Maximum wakeful period at various ages:
Less than 2 month = 1hr, 3 months = 1.5hrs; 4/5 months = 2hrs; 6 months = 2.5hrs, 8/9 months = 3hrs; 10+ months = 3-4 hrs.
Once the child is on 1 nap (transition usually occurs anywhere between 13-18 months), the wakeful period extends to 5/6 hrs.
The average daily sleep requirements for the average child in order to be well-rested enough to consistently sleep well are:
Less than 3 months = 15.5-18hrs, 4 months = 15hrs, 6 months = 14.5hrs, 9 months = 14hrs, 15 months = 13.5hrs, 2 years = 13hrs.
When your DS is napping at the same time everyday, with appropriate WT, they should extend. If not, do a nap extention like I mentioned in the previous post. HTH!

Thank you! DS is indeed having the correct WT between naps...I thought for the longest time that DS just didn't require long naps bc he does not seem tired or cranky when he wakes up from his nap.
