Nanny Federal Holiday Pay Poll
We're in the process of negotiating compensation for our Nanny. So far we've settled on 3 sick days and 2 weeks vacation (one of her choosing, one of our choosing). Now I'm wondering whether its really standard to pay her on federal holidays where we don't work. TIA!

I would base it on what you get - are you paid those days off? If so, then pay her.

That is irrelevant IMO. Some people pay their nannies for holidays, some don't. Our original arrangement with our nanny is that if we don't need her we still pay her, but if she asks for time off we don't. We do use her on some holidays, but not the major ones, but we still pay her for them. She very rarely asks for days off, so we just pay her for them.

A lot of nannies want holidays paid, it's tough because you never get a break when paying a nanny

I've never had a job that did not pay me for holidays so I would expect to pay the nanny for the same holidays.
I think any good nanny will expect holidays paid.

We pay our nanny for all federal holidays and she has those days off. Every nanny we interviewed seemed to expect that.

If she gets the day off because I'm off we pay her. I don't get many of the Federal holidays only Labor day, memorial day and 4th of July - she gets paid for those.
The other federal holidays I need her to work besides Christmas, NY, and Thanksgiving

We have always paid ours sincere have off. She doesn't get off for Columbus day or mlk day. All the others she does.

I don't know if this is a silly question, but what's the difference between a nanny and a babysitter who comes when you're at work? My friend doesn't pay her sitter any days she's off, yet she takes the kids to dance, school, etc and cooks dinner sometimes. Isn't that a nanny?
