Name your Dr and Why.....

Soooo,
I'm dr shopping.... my time with Dr B will end soon, and I'm soooooo sad about that.
I do not have a dr lined up yet and need to start looking for one.

I have very high dr standards.... I think because they are a doctor and have people's lives at their hands, they just need to be nothing less but phenomenal at what they do. Plus, I'm a little fearful of doctors... so this will REALLY help me.

Will you pretty please list your doctor and what it is you like about them??

I really don't know where to begin looking for a doctor. Tho, I did ask Dr B for a recommendation and he recommended Dr Goldstein in Great Neck.

We are looking to deliver at North Shore of Manhasset.

Thanks Guys!!

Dr. Gilad Greenberg - North Shore Obsetrics in Bayside, NY

I love him for so many reasons - he's good, he knows his stuff, he listens to you, he explains everything and he is compassionate. He calls to follow up on you.

After my last OB experience with my first DS, I am so glad to have found someone like him.

Re: Name your Dr and Why.....

OK, so I looove my single practitioner just bc he's that, he knows you personally and you see him all the time not any other dr, but again, I'm not thrilled with his hours bc he is running around and his staff is eh..thats why I was thinking of switching. He delivered DD and was wonderful and DH loved him too. His name is Dr. Trongone. I'm thinking of switching to Great Neck OBGYN with Sadaty and Rifkin, ppl rave about them, they do everythng in house no going out to get sonos etc, where my dr I have to go to NS to get my major sonos!!!

HTH!!

I go to this practice as well. My OB is Dr. Randi Rothstein--she just delivered my DS two weeks ago.

I switched from the practice that delivered my DDs because of their complete apathy. Unfortunately, I suffered a m/c after that, but was SOOOO relieved to have made the switch when I did. Dr. Rothstein was nothing but phenomenal...calling me from home to check up on me, etc. etc. During my pregnancy, I never felt rushed; she talked to me like a human being; she has a great bedside manner...in short, I just LOVE her!

Definitely recommend this group!

Re: Name your Dr and Why.....

My dr. is in the city so that probably won't help you, but I can tell you why I chose her (I also have very high dr. standards):

1. Most importantly, she came with good recommendations and delivers at a good hospital
2. She never makes me wait forever after my appointment time (this is a big one for me, even if I loved a dr. it infuriates me to sit in the waiting room for 45 minutes).
3. She is cautious enough, but takes a fairly laid back approach and is not overly alarmist. I am very anxious about something going wrong, so I find this comforting. She is a proponent of the everything (other than alcohol) in moderation theory.
4. They do ultrasounds and sonograms in the office (except for some of the more detailed) and they have up-to-date equipment
5. This practice has a low c-section rate and an "episiotomy only if absolutely necessary" policy
6. In the last few weeks, you see all of the doctors in the practice so you can get to know them in case one of them is on call and your dr. is unavailable when you go into labor.
7. The office is in a convenient location.

The one thing my dr. doesn't do, that I kind of wish she did was communicate by email. I often work 60-70hrs a week, so anything that makes life more convenient makes me happy.

Im so happy everything went well for you yesterday.
The practice i go to is Great Neck OBGYN, I saw Dr. Sadaty and she was great! They have great hours and everything is done in one place. The next appt i have is with Dr. Rifkin (same practice) and I hear great things about him. Dr. Kauffman is the other dr. who is also very nice. Its good that you get to see the 3 of them and familiarize yourself because you can have anyone of them assist in your delivery. The staff is really wonderful too. They are affiliated with NS-Manhasset.

My doctor is Dr. Nerenberg. I absolutely love him but he delivers out of LIJ. Also, he's a single doctor practice so if he's not available to deliver that day, I'm getting someone I don't know. I don't know if that's important to you Kerri.

Re: Name your Dr and Why.....

When it was time for me to look for a doctor I asked Dr. B who he suggested.

Since he considered me somewhat high risk he suggested I go to Dr. Mark Pillitteri.

When I went to Dr. Pillitteri he wanted me to also start seeing a perinatologist and he suggested Dr. Kofinas.

I would ask Dr. B who he suggests and go from there.

You want a doctor that is going to understand your case and all of the testing that Dr. B has done.

Re: Name your Dr and Why.....

I live in Philly, so I'm not help Chat Icon. However, since I moved to PA when I was 6 weeks, here were the things I looked for:

-Had to be affiliated with one of two hospitals that we researched (DH grew up in this area and knows the hospital systems around here really well).

-Multiple doctors in the practice, no wait for appointments. My doctor somehow sees me right away even though the place is always hoppin'!

-I wanted to agree with their policies on tests, c-sections, episiotomies, etc.

-I needed to get along with the practice. PG is such an emotional time, and if a woman doesn't feel comfortable with her doctor, she should find another one! I feel so comfortable asking the dumbest of dumb questions, and that's important.

ETA: Why is it I always have typos on LIW, LIF, and FB? I'm a writer, this really isn't good Chat Icon.

Dr Kofinias is who I was orginally looking to see... but he is in litigation with GHI insurance and therefore couldn't take me on as a patient bc that's my insurance.

Definately talk to Dr. B and if he suggests Kofinas then tell him why you can't go there and he will suggest another person to you.

Re: Name your Dr and Why.....

Honestly picking a doctor is always hard for me. I come from a family of doctors (literally almost everyone) and have pretty high standards. My doctor only delivers at Winthrop, but here are some of the reasons I picked him.

1. He is a single practitioner. I left a pretty popular OB/Gyn practice before him because one of the doctors just really rubbed me the wrong way. I wanted to know I was going to see the same person every time.

2. His office staff is nice. Honestly, they are helpful. When I call they have a nurse call me back right away. There is never an issue making appointments.

3. I needed him to deliver at Winthrop.

4. He is laid back. I need a doctor who wasn't an alarmist. Honestly, I freak out enough. I really needed someone that would be easy and personable and be in the everything in moderation camp. I don't need anyone to help me worry.

5. He is personable. I can ask him a million questions and he doesn't mind.

Good Luck on your hunt!

I second him! He was so amazing throughout my whole labor/birth.
He actually wasn't my Dr- I saw someone else in the practice, but he was on call when I was scheduled.
Well, he's my dr now! He was just wonderful!

Dr. Ramirez in Great Neck. I went to another doctor in the practice since I was 19 and when I became pregnant I assumed he would deliver but he said I had to transfer over to the OB side of the practice where I started seeing Dr. Ramirez - shes very nice and answers all of my ten million questions very patiently.
