We ended up speaking to the urologist yesterday. He told us this is a relatively common problem. After the surgery and recuperation he should have no further issues. His kidney is functioning although it is not releasing any urine at all, his other kidney is making up for it. The dr just called my DH and they want to do the surgery tomorrow. It is a regular surgery(not laproscopic) They will remove the clogged part of the tube that runs from the kidney to the bladder, place a stent in that area and then sew it up. Then the stent will be removed a couple of weeks later. Thanks again for all the support and I will try to update tomorrow
I described that same surgery in my earlier post on this thread.. I had it too, and I have the same congenital defect. It's a lot more common than one would think!

Just had my DS's sono and urologist appt yesterday and it looks like we will be doing this surgery this summer unless a miracle happens and he doesn't need it Please let me know how it goes. I need to prepare for it.

Wow, I am just seeing this now. You poor thing (and poor Ronan too  ). I can't imagine how you guys are feeling, must be so stressful & I am sure the surgery was very scary for you!
Glad to hear it went well and he's recovering.
When my oldest DD was just about to turn 1 year, she got a raging UTI...which resulted in lots of testing for her. During that testing, it was discovered that she has 2 ureters on one of her kidneys...and one of those ureters is very misshaped (Dr. said it is supposed to be straight like a piece of spaghetti but her's is all snakey). She had to be put under anesthesia to determine if she had any blockages, which thankfully she doesn't....but we definitely keep an eye on it with yearly sonograms, etc.
I can only imagine how stressful it was for all of you...glad it sounds like he's on his way to a full recovery!

OMG Melissa....just seeing this now and I am in tears for all that you and Ronan have been through. I am so sorry but at the same time so relieved to hear that the doctors have been able to help.
