My parents put their house on the market
It's somewhat bittersweet. It's the house I grew up in and the one they've lived in nearly 35 years... but I guess it's time. They are moving out of state, too, so it will be an odd adjustment not having my parents nearby when they do move.
The house won't be on MLS for another 2 weeks. I think they are having their realtor do a couple of open houses first.
If anyone is (seriously) looking for a house in the Cathedral Gardens section of West Hempstead, you can FM me for details.

Re: My parents put their house on the market
Hey Kara!! good luck to your parents!!!! I completely understand the bittersweet sentiment....we sold my mom's house in '05, and the developer knocked it down and put up a 2 family home instead
my sisters MIL just sold her house about 3 mths ago in W. Hempstead- right on Eagle Avenue- I think she got 360K? but her house needed a lot of work and was on a busy street (right off of SSP).

Re: My parents put their house on the market
awww.. I can undersand how that feels. My parents built out house and we moved from there about 8 years ago. The people who moved in apparently couldnt afford it.. my poor house is vacant and i cant even tell you how bad it looks.

Re: My parents put their house on the market
I can feel your bittersweet. My parents sold their house in August 06 to move OOS also. It was so hard for me bc when my husband & I bought our house, we bought 3 miles from my parents...I grew up in the house & it took me so long to get use to them not being there. I even drove down the block daily after they first moved.
Now a year later, I am doing good with it. My parents made the right move bc they have a brand new house for so much less. They can live so much more comfortable bc they don't have the added stress of the bills!!!

My parents are on the other side of town, only a few blocks from the numbered Streets in Garden City. (The Cathedral Gardens section of WH.)
I think it's on the realtor's web site now... If I can find it later, I'll post a link!

Exactly! My parents already bought a house in NC a few years ago, and that's where they are moving. It's possible they will buy a small co-op or something in the NY area, but that remains to be seen.
I'm glad other people know where I'm coming from. I'm NOT anti-change at all - Heck, *I'd* up and move to KY tomorrow if we could find jobs there... It will just be weird to see someone else living in "my" house. ;) I know it's for the best, though!
